My little bro gets paranoid when he smokes

He's 18 and been smoking for about half a year. We've smoked together a LOT. Recently, the last 3-5 times he has toked, he would get super paranoid. I'm talking weird ass paranoia... he thought I was doing experiments on him. Also, he won't go to sleep when high if I'm not in the same room because he's too afraid. Normally, I wouldn't be too worried, but he says that its making him paranoid when he's sober as well. Dude would tell me he thinks that people are watching him and etc. I've been switching up strains (I smoke him out every time, he has no sources) and I don't get any of the paranoia that he gets so I don't think its laced. This is with a few hits as well, probably 0.3-0.4g's between the both of us from a bong.

I have since stopped smoking him out because I think it might be triggering some psychological problems or something. I dunno, he isn't the most normal guy. He's extremely introverted. If it makes a difference, he says he has been slightly depressed recently. Should I stop smoking him out completely or wait until the depression subsides? I've been trying to help him out but the only times where he will open up to me is when we are baked lol. BTW, we had a really bad relationship before we starting toking but we're really close now

It's all over for him...sorry bro. I smoked ten years then one day i smoked, major paranoia and anxiety. He'll never enjoy it again. On the plus side there IS more to life than pot. I didnt think so either but really, life goes on =]

in EXTREME cases weed can cause paranoid schizophrenia and being your bro is 18 he could be in the developing stages as schizophrenia often onsets in the 20s....i dont want to scare you but it sounds like a possible situation.

Don't listen to him dude. your bro is fine he just got a little anxiety and possible depression. If he don't smoke and just stays active and healthy he'll be fine.

I had an ex-sister-in-law who was the same at 18, 30 years later and we have suffered her full blown paranoid shit-head antics for 30 years ... how nobody has killed her is amazing as she doesn't fit into family or society in any way and hurts anyone who is stupid enough to let her.

I would suggest that your brother stops smoking AND gets a medical check-up, definitely needs to stop smoking for his sake and anyone that has anything to do with him.

Oh jesus... I've been suspecting this for awhile as well but I read some studies that said there was no connection between marijuana and schizophrenia so I kinda ignored it. I'm looking through the symptoms right now and a lot fit actually. He is socially withdrawn and the wikipedia page even says sloppiness in dress and hygiene. He still wears his shirt backwards a lot and refuses to put on deodorant. He's really intelligent so I thought he was okay. I'm definitely gonna suggest he get a check up. Thanks guys

Wonder if he is smoking something else on the side...... I had a buddy that smoked meth and I would burn him out every now and then and he would get like that. Bugged the heck outta me cause you cant enjoy your moment with a paranoid person.

I would stop bringing weed up to your bro. I wouldn't make the leap to if he smokes weed it will cause problems for him psychologically, but it sounds like he has some underlying issues he needs sorting out first.

I can remember times when i first started smoking when i would get paranoid as shit. But never to the point when i thought my friends and family were conspiring against me...it was more like "OMG that girl doesn't like me because i have a mole on my face, she thinks I'm hideous" type shit.

Just give your little bro the love and attention he sounds like he needs right now.

Weed opens you up to yourself and increases your emotions x10 fold. He might not be happy in the first place and is probably living in his head too much. Making him seem like an introvert. Stop smoking him out until he's happy enough to personally say, "Hey, lets get high". Then just keep an eye on him. If nothing has changed, idk what to tell you. I speak from personal experience. I can't have the high I used to have when I was like 18-20. I mostly smoke alone and am more confident being high by myself and in my room. Idk why. When I'm sober, I'm fine.

You'd think he'd take the advice o someone that lives with it....oh well...your brother has schitzophrania and smokes crack...Im terribly sorry.

To everyone who said it could lead to psychological problems is completely wrong. If your really worried then most extreme measure is to cut him off. I had a cousin same exact way I made him wait till he want to and it was fine. If i were you just ask him if he even wants to smoke anymore since he acts like its an awful experience.maybe if your giving him the good shit switch him to reg. but to me just sounds like he can't handle his weed with the bad hygiene.forgetfulness and paranoia but all in all Hell be fine weed or not

So everyone here is saying they NEVER got even a little paranoidsmoking? That must obviously be a serious mental disorder?...I mean if it is then I gotta talk to my shrink some more =O

The kid is paranoid even when he isn't high. If he is having any kind of delusions he needs to see a doctor and you should probably not smoke with him if it aggravates his disorder.

I get paranoid sometimes. I won't want to leave my home because the people outside are such freaks and I don't want to deal with them. It can be helped with an anxiety pill usually.
