My ladies look like dwarfs!

My plants (six of them) are now going into their 5th week and look like dwarfs. I'm growing an unknown strain (seeds I got in some weed I bought). The ladies look healthy, despite some yellow tips (after much guessing, I think it was heat stress) and they have LOADS of branches and leaves. Still, the biggest one is about 17cm (6/7 inches) tall and the smallest one is only 13cm (5 inches).
Is there anything wrong? Is it possible is a dwarf strain or something like that? Their stems are strong and when I say LOADS of branches and leaves, I really mean it! In some of them I can hardly see some of the branches and leaves without having to search through the upper/outer leaves.
I'm using a 400watt HPS, growing in soil, feeding them with BioGrow and Hesi SuperVit. I would like to go into flowering in a couple of weeks but they seem so short...

They look as though they are developing nicely although they do seem smallish for 5 weeks. It could be the genetics, the downside of bag seed.

Agree and agree with Little Tommy.

You never mentioned what light schedule you have them on, some do different things in veg. They will start to strecht the first couple of weeks in flower then hopefully stop and those tite nodes that you have got will be filled with flowers, yum!

I don't think there is much to be worried about, imo.

EDIT: I assume you don't know if they are male or female either?

I have them on a 18/6 schedule. And yup, I call them ladies hoping I get as many as possible cause I still don't know... In fact, they're starting their 5th week today but from what I see, they are small indeed! That's why I decided to ask around here...

By the way, when going into flowering, should I suddenly change it to 12/12 or is it better to cut it's light period gradually?

Those are not small at all at 5 weeks of age !!!
Most of the vegging plants you see here are clones, therefore they will be larger at this stage.

It was 6 inches until the 5 or 6th week or so then took off like crazy.
As long as the leaves look like they do now -- nice and healthy -- you should be good to go !

They ARE small for 5 weeks.........here are mine at a little over 4 weeks and 2 feet tall


I agree with Tommy it definitely looks like bad genetics. I wouldn't worry too much though there isn't much you can do except keep them healthy. You could try 20/4 instead of 18/6......I keep mine on 24/0 in veg.

how close is your light? how big r those pots? they look small remember the bigger/smaller the pot the more/less roots more root=bigger plants more flowers. I wouldnt stress too much a lot of people with space limits do it on purpose an call em lollipops.

Though I'm just a newbie (my first grow) I think they're small, specially their height. They are 4 weeks, starting its 5th week today (the one that popped earlier). I'm only a bit concerned that when I go into flowering there won't be enough space to develop decent bud, considering how close the branches are right now... but yeah, I guess I should keep doing what I'm doing and wait to see how it all will end. I don't have a lot of room for them nor can I raise the light that much so, how much longer should I veg them? I had planned maybe one or two weeks more but they look like dwarfs and that kinda freaks me out...

You should consider at least 3 more weeks. Like I said, they WILL take off soon, just wait. It just might take them a bit longer.

Actually lollipoping is a pruning technique where you trim off the lower branches so more energy is focused on the main colas.
Trab - The short inter-node spacing is actually good. That means you should have a decent compact nug instead of stretched out airy buds. The closer the branching the better IMO

It looks lik you have primarilly indica genetics, which can start off a bit squaty when grown from seed. They should start increasing in size soon, and since they are mini bushes at this point, 2-3 weeks till flowering. Your plants will do their fastest growth in the first four weeks of flowering, but may be mature at only 2-3 feet. Please post more photos in about a week, and good luck with your grow.

Yeah, I read in a lot of places and it makes sense. In fact, first I was really happy with that but now they seem "too" close. But just like I said, it's my first grow so I felt like I should ask around!

In a week or so I will post an update here.

One last stupid question: one of them, is a lighter-green in comparison to the other 5. Does that mean anything or just genetics? She looks pretty healthy...

I would not change a thing you are doing. Those are the best looking "how do my plants Look" I've seen in a while. Only down side to such close nodes is the buds will be so dense that you can run the risk of mold. Keep your RH down and you will be fine.

Yes, that is another possible problem though it doesn't worry me that much as the place where they're growing is quite dry... now I just need to find a way to cool down the place a bit... sometimes it gets 35ºC (95F) in there... In fact, they're not on 18/6 but 19/6 as I'm trying to get the dark period into the hottest hours of the day (it's been like hell in here). That is preventing me from getting the light nearer the plants as the temp would reach 38ºC (100F). That might be an additional problem slowing down their growth. Right now, the lamp is 60cm (23,4 inches) above the plants
By the way, the pots are 5,5L each (1,45 gallon). I they're small but when I told the lady from the grow shop I didn't want them to get very big (because of the lack of space) she told these would be enough... Now I see they MIGHT be enough...

What kind of exhaust system are you running?

Did that today... moved it 10cm (4inches). Tomorrow I'll have to rearrange some stuff there in order to get it higher. Right now they have two 20watts small fans, one at the bottom for intake and another one at the level of the light to exhaust. Inside they have one big fan leaning slightly upwards in order to move the hot air to top (as the setup isn't closed at it's top, as the smell is not a problem for now. When I close the top, then I'll have to figure out another way of doing this as I'm afraid the temperature will rise a few degrees...
