hey guys,
I'm a new member here, but by no means new to smoking the sweet ganja!

the grow is a rubbermaid grow, two 30gal units with 6 CFLs (pics to come as soon as im done charging the digital camera). Its modeled after RaginCajun's grow as i was thoroughly impressed with the results he's had. Ive gotten tired of buying bud from people who swear up and down that "its the shit" only to find its garbage. Im tired of getting ripped off, im tired of wasting money on something I KNOW I CAN DO BETTER. im tired of being paranoid of who is watching when i buy....so, here we are.

I purchased 10 Durban Poison seeds in the fall from Sacred Seed in Toronto, Canada. It was originally going to be an outdoor grow, hence the selection of Durban poison since ive been told its quite forgiving for a new grower. Well, now its been switched indoor for fear of nosey neighbors. out of the ten seeds, two germinated. TWO!? 20%?!! im not impressed. im sure ive done it correctly, paper towel method, two popped right away, the others diddnt, so i let them sit for 5 days....nothing, zip, zilch, NADDA. tried putting them in water.....NOTHING. last time i buy from them.

I took my two little sprouts and put them in front of the window while i built my bins. now they are under the lights and ready to go!

im using 4 -60watt equivelent CFLS and 2-100watt equivelent CFLS for a total of 6. im going 18-6 for 4 weeks then ill switch to 12-12 and will be doing LST.

Right now im recording temps of 81degrees and 54% humidity, Should i be concerned? what are the ideal scenarios here? im using Miracle gro potting soil from a local nursery in 8" pots. Ill be giving them water every other day or so. Not sure if i should be introducing nutrients in veg, can someone chime in and clue me in?

other than that, im sure ill have tons of questions and be seeking the guidance of you veteran growers, hope you'll welcome me with open arms.

oh yea, and about that bong hit i promised you in the beginning....I just packed up the ROOR....hurry up and hit it, i wanna get high but you get the greens!

sounds sweet, the temps and humidity are okay. you don't want much higher readings.
are you using mg with nutes? if you are you won't need to add anything but water.
you really need to buy a hydrometer, i found mine at the local nursry for 5 bucks. too much water with mg with nutes can cause nute burns.
looking foward to pics and welcome abroad mr. vapor

whatup man... well without the pics can see more problems......hehhee

If the cab is at 81 and there isnt any plants in there i would say its a little hot... Make sure that you have thought out your air system... Bring air in one side and push all the air out the other side.... I have seen many growers place fans that actually worked against them.

Not sure of your reasons for your cfl purchase.. but i would replace those other 60 watt equivalent (i think thats 14 watt ones right..) Get the biggest ones... like those 100 watt equivalent ones.. I be leave those are the 26 watt ones....But yeah man get us some pics.

One thing that helped my cab out allot was putting a fan sucking air out around the light. ( I have one inside the exit hole of the 400 watt light, And then added another duct sucking air towards the top.... Major difference in temps...

I have mine cab int he garage so i have to flower at night... Living in cali it gets pretty hot and i was concerned about the temps..... I have heard of strains being able to stand up to 120 .. but im sure that is a specialized plant.... all of the reports i have read basically show me that when your int he 8* then growing slows down....

Good luck with your grow man. :joint::peace:

Well,
Im not sure if i should be discouraged or not. still havnt gotten ahold of my charger and i know this post doesnt mean shit without pics.

Im in week 1.5, temps are hovering right around 79*-81* with humidity anywhere from 38%-48% (how does this sound? do i need to adjust anything here?)

I know i need to replace the lower watt bulbs with higher watt ones, i plan on doing that this week. As stated above, im using the MG with the continuous release plant food which says it feeds for three months. Do i need to add any nutes?

So i guess my questions are as follows:
1. How are my temps/humidity?
2. Im totally clueless as to nutes, when do i need to start adding them? i plan on a 4 week veg before going 12/12.

PICS to come i promise guys, but anyone that can chime in id love to have your advice.

glad to see another great start up! the temps and 38-48% humidity are perfect. 54% humidity may be a little high when you are in the last few weeks of flowering. high humidity promotes flower mold. until then it'll do. if you are going the rubbermaid tote route then put a little paper tent over your thermo sensor as if it is exposed to light it'll be artifically high reading and not ambient temperature. you could also stick the sensor in the exhaust vent and see how high that is. with MG you could go all the way to the end and not use any fertilizer. if you would like to use ferts then i suggest using 1/4 of suggested strength in the begining. sometimes MG that has been sitting outside and exposed to water and sun while at the store will have all its slow released nutes already released and absorbed in to the medium making it "hot" and putting more fuel to the fire is a disaster. no hurry on those bulbs those will work fine for a while. potentcy will suffer if not veged long enough. take it from me and veg at least six weeks or until signs of preflowers. this is a marathon not a windsprint. enjoy the experience.

thanks for coming in BuRnn,

So from what i gather, the MG soil should be good for awhile, no need to add anything at this point, just keep an eye on things. The bag was bought from an indoor shelf, so hopefully it was not out on the lot of the garden store soaking up sun.

What is everyones opinions of Fox Fams products? its readily available right up the street from me.

Im just a bit hung up on nutrients at this point, the rest will take care of itself.

Adding pictures:

the first pictures show my grow box. its got a multitude of different CFLs, some are 100w, some are 150w and some are 60w. the largest are the 150 and are a 'cool light', while the 100ws in the middle are super bright. not sure if this is a strategy or not, just figured id go with it.

the plants were grown from seed in the window of my house, they didnt get moved to the grow cab until last sunday night, so their first week of life was stritctly sunlight, which i think can attribute to their stretch and their stunted growth. Im a bit worried that their growth has been slow?

Temps as you can see have been ranging from 87-90 depending on the day, is this too high? what is ideal?

how do my plants look for a two week plant (one week in the grow cab)?

pray for females guys, pray!!

I'm attempting my first grow soon, I wish I had enough room for a cab. I've been researching it for a few weeks now to get it down pat before I start and I must say, If I had a cab I would want it to look exactly like that. You make good use of the space with the powerstrip and the little automotive fan for the lights, and I didnt even THINK of using those y adapters for using more bulbs. I love it! I just bought a lamp repair kit and a few extra lamp sockets and spliced the new sockets into the middle of the lamp wire... I hope it wont cause a problem, I mean the lights are 26watts each so I dont think it will be. But all in all great job!

edit: This post is referring to the grow cab, I'm not sure how the plants are supposed to look at each stage at this point.

well, things have really jumped since i last posted. they've probably doubled in size in the past 5 days. temps are staying right around 87-90* daily, and at night when the lights shut off, it gets closer to 75-78* i think its a good mixture, and havnt seen any ill effects yet.

my Miracle grow soil still has me really concerned. its the one that feeds your plant for up to 3 months, but ive been told its something to keep my eye on. what should i be looking for? overload of nutrients on the seedling? One plant has the leafs drooping ever so slightly, and a dry appearance to the leaves. i moved this one to the other side and see if it was just something funky. one even has a touch of color coming into it. its just an ever so faint trace of a purpley/red. nothing you would see unless you are oogling over your babies like i do.

So, i guess im thinking of transplanting out of the 8" pots and perhaps into 10" ones. at which point ill switch over to fox farms ocean forest.

the plants are coming up on 2.5 weeks vegging, im gonna wait one more week before i start any type of nutrients. at this point so early in the plants life, i should be feeding it nitrogen to promote root and stem growth. whats a good number to look for? 15,20? also, i should be feeding it every other watering at 1/2 stength. is THIS correct?

thanks guys, ill get pics tonite

Your temps are getting a little high, they can probably handle it though.

humidity- 60-70 for veg 40-60 flower

temps- day 70-75
night 60-65

fox farms is what i use it works really well, i use the ocean forest soil, tiger bloom, grow big.

I would invest in a t5 ho it will pay for itself. If you have to use cfl's theres a vwebsite i think it's called 1000bulbs.com you can buy true 100 watt cfls for about 20 bucks. If your using regular lamp sockets make sure you get the E26 medium base bulbs.

I want my bong hit damnit!!!!!!!

happy growing

Great info! can you give me more info on this light set you're talking about?

whats a t5 ho? im guessing a t5 tube CFL?

Yeah basicly it is a tube cfl. They're a little expensive though. I have two 4ft 6 bulbers and I'm gonna spring for two more. They sell them at htgsupply.com,ebay, or if you have any stores near you that specialize in commercial lighting. Mix the bulbs 1/2 red 1/2 blue. Check out victor vicious's grow using the t5's.

Updates!

plants have really being doing well. i think the roots have gotten a strong hold in the soil and top growth has picked up considerably. this was taken about 30 mins ago.

Temps: 87*-90*
RH: 27%-33%

One plant has some drooping leaves, not too concerned about it, but worth keeping a close eye on. ive purchased 10gallons of distilled water, and I pH tested them all. they all fall right around 6.2-6.5 which in my opinion is dead nuts perfect for a soil grow.

Next week they start their food, ill be going all organic in this arena, too worried about plant burn and the whole idea of chemicals, i just like it au natural.

on with the pics, please feel free to comment, and thanks for stopping in for the bong hit!
