My germinated seed's taproot has stopped growing

The digging process is why. I am sure the little gentle roots coming off the tap were damaged, but you just can't see it.

I use a wooden chopstick to make a small hole in the soil and tweezers to set them in. Then, I just cover the top of the seed. The next day, I usually have a little plant. I have always done it this way.
You don't see a disconnect in your logic? You have never had one take more than 24 hours to pop up yet you think this guys was still alive and well after 3 days under soil? C'mon, think about it!

OP - My opinion is your plant died from either root rot/damping off or from damage to the tap root during transplant. No way to know for sure but letting a tap root grow for a full day before planting has no benefit that I know of.

All of mine except one were 2-3mm long before planting (full day after I noticed the shell had cracked). All survived, and then they all survived being replanted due to stretching at 5 days old. Personally I wouldn't give up on a seed for a good week. I've had non cannabis seeds pop the soil 3 weeks after planting...

You learn patience if cannabis isn't the only thing you grow.

Old seeds can take a lot longer to germ, but still germ. There is no problem with my logic not knowing all of his variables, I just took a fundamental approach to my answer. My seeds may be better kept than anther grower's storing methods. That alone can affect the speed of germination.

I don't understand your point, his seed had already cracked and put out a tap root for a full day before planting. So the seed had clearly germinated under any definition of the word that I am familiar with. I've put old seeds that were improperly stored in a freezer through the paper towel germination routine and those that germed all made it above ground faster than 3 days. So I have no point of reference for old seeds taking that long to get above ground if they have already germed. I've seen them not make it at all, but never seen one come up after 3 days.

I germinated close to 15 old seeds at the beginning of the year and the growth/germ rates were all over the placE. Some I gave up on, popped a day later, and some grew into stout little plants I gave away.

With purchased seed, I'm at %100 sprout still. Half a day in paper towels and they crack. imo the best time to plant is when there isn't enough taproot to mishandle.

I don't like even looking in my germ Conailer before I set my pots up. They're always germinated if stored right. almost like some force like science or nature is at work.

Starting with bad seeds you're forced to germ out of the dirt, or you won't know which seeds are even viable. I just do what I've done so far :/

The point is, there are too many variables to consider for this. If he let them dry out at all, that would add 3-6 days on them picking their heads up out of the soil for example. They would still grow, just would take them a bit. What is your question?

When did you stop beating your wife?

JK - never mind - it's all good :bigjoint:

My seedling finally popped out yesterday around noon. and today is about 3/4inch tall. i'm glad i'ts not dead. Maybe watering way too much after putting the seed on soil was my mistake, and I think not enough heat was another issue maybe. My set up inicially I added another small cfl the night before yesterday, making it a bit more hot in the closet from 23c to about 26c now. I also made sure not to water too much (not soaking) after moved the seed from the solo cup to the bigger pot. so yesterday when i came home it had popped out a little bit shedding its seed shells. what is an average time from a germinated seed, to pop ground once put in soil?

I recently had this problem for the first time with the cookies kush transplanted it to a smaller container with a stronger mix and more perlite for oxygen to help the roots grow hope this works overwatered did some serious damage added some hydrogen peroxide to help clean the roots wish me luck.....p.s don't transplant photoperiods to larger pots stresses the plant out and makes it easier to over water unless its autoflower than your ok

This is what the slow seedling looks like 14 days after it popped soil. added one more 23w cfl yesterday so ia have 3 23w and one 32w total. 11160484_10153329232249343_767158322_n.jpg11186216_10153329318369343_739041301_n.jpg day 15. Id appreciate any helpful suggestions and or comments

I agree bugeye. I'm always trying to help people get away from the age old dogma of how to pop beans.
I have never In 4 years of caregiving lost a seed. That may sound strange but it just doesn't happen if we humans get the fuck out the way. Plant directly into any root riot type cube. 1/4 inch down. Moisten( not wet) medium. Heat pad under humidity dome. Easy. Seed will pop out I cube in 12-24 hours. Tap water until out into soil. Or If on filtered water a cpple drops calmg will really make things pop once your have roots.

Don't duck with nature guys. The seed needs to know which way is up by gravity and it's nature desire to go against. Watch videos on YouTube if seeds sprouting under normal conditions. You will see that paper towel methods are inferior. Sorry if I affended anyone but. Truth can hurt
Not sure if anyone still watching this thread. However, I will ask my question:
Never had a problem poping seeds in damp paper towel inside a ziplock bag with a blow of air. I have 5 years old seed, they crack but do not grow. After a week the white internals of the seeds turns mushy so I figure its dead. I put them under LED light, incandescent and even neon. I used all kind of timing, mostly from 12/12 to 14/10 nothing is working. I planted directly into the rockwool setting in hydroponics setup with PH 6 and around 300 conductivity. Just covered the top of the seed slightly with some shredded rockwool to keep the moisture and protect from direct light. Humidity is controlled at 65%. Same thing. After few days i check the seed is cracked, after a week is mushy. I make sure not to disturb it at all. Not sure what i am doing wrong this time?
