My First Time - Inspired by Narnia!

instead of placing your bottle outside your rez throw 1-20oz or 1-1 liter bottle actually in it per day. You need to get that water temp down below 70. If you dont no matter how much light you block your still running a very high risk of contamination. Pyrethrun or something like that. HAHA (your slime you noticed). Not to mention your techniflora line is bc grow micro and bloom? I know for a fact these bad boys hate anything over 72f in the rez.
I put the 2 liter inside the res one day and it completely melted in about 4 hours. I've been looking at an Aquarium Chiller from Amazon. Not sure if 8 degrees is worth the $180 setup cost though. I could cut the cost by $60 if I don't get the thermostat controller.

I guess the real question for me is two fold. Are my plants healthy and will they produce enough to make me self sufficient?

I have a problem with one plant. The tallest. It is about a foot tall. Right above where the stalk comes out of the clay pellets it is bulbous and then has a very thin section that is black in color and the returns to normal stalk thickness and color. I have tied it like a tree sapling to keep it upright. I am hoping this baby does not break. It is the tallest and has the most growth so I think it is getting plenty of food.

I lowered the water level so that it is no longer bubbling up over the pellets. But I got it a bit higher than you suggested. I'm going to let the babies drink it down to the proper level instead of dipping out nutrient rich water. I just won't replenish as much. I have between 4 - 9 inches of root growth. The smallest plant, that it thought was going to die, has the shortest roots but it has tripled in size this last week and now stands about six inches tall.
Show me a photograph of this anomalous growth you're talking about on your tallest.

That's fine and pretty sound. Let the plants drink it down until they are a bit lower in level. Just make sure you let this happen gradually to avoid any harsh salt buildup.

The latest update photos look great. You're doing fantastic. You're plants are pretty big already. When do you plan to flower? I would start thinking about it soon. They'll triple in size in flower.

Edit:
Oh, and cool water, cool water, cool water... I can't stress that enough. Do whatever you have to do, baby sit that sucker with multiple bottles frozen and at the ready. When one melts, pull it out and replace it, etc. If you can control your water temps, your overall grow will succeed. I don't think that small chiller unit will do you any good as I understand it is effective only for a much higher temp range than a hydroponic overheating problem. Don't buy it. Just try to tough it out with water bottle for now until your plants get larger and start shading the res more. It should stay a bit cooler later.

Thanks for the kudos, they are appreciated.

I plan to take them into flowering on 6/15. I've read that I should wait until they are 18" tall, not sure if that is a hard fast law or just somebodies self guideline. I doubt they will be that tall when I go to flower, but probably very close.

I forgot to take a picture of that soft spot before I performed CPR on the thing.

My first catastrophe. This is the one that had the soft spot in the stalk and would not stand up on it's own. I guess It isn't getting nutes/water anymore. Or is getting very little. So, I kept it intact while removing all the pellets, Then I sunk the soft spot down to the bottom of the basket, while keeping everything including the roots attached. Now it stands up by itself again, and the soft spot is below the water level with roots hanging down into the water.

I found it that way this afternoon when I got home. So I took swift action hoping to be able to save the little darling. Hopefully it will work.

I'm not upset about this problem though, It is my first learning opportunity regarding severe problems.

Ouch. That looks pretty bad. Since it's a shared res, I would pull it and junk it before it starts affecting the healthy plants. That thing doesn't look like it's gonna make it, and if you leave a dying plant in your res, it will start to decompose and release harmful chemical byproducts into your res (like ammonia -- very very bad for plants).

There are no hard fast laws in 'when to start flower.' It all depends on the grow environment and the desired target schedule the grower is going for.

When making observations of other grow journals... and especially when giving advice, I need to remind myself that not everyone has 1000w in such a tight space as I do. Even in early veg, I'm preparing for the size increase the flower period will bring... but then again I have monster vigor. For someone growing at a slightly easier pace, you should be fine flowering at a taller height, but do watch out...because they will grow like mad in flower... maybe not as crazy as mine, but they will explode in size.

Tonight at midnight the lights will change to a 12/12 cycle. I've already replaced the bulbs with the 2700 kelvin 23w CFL's.

PPM stayed steady over the last couple of weeks right around 900 and the PH has been steady as well and within range.

I removed the dead plant the day I was told to, so it would not contaminate my other plants.

Right now my tallest plant is 18 inches, so I did make it to that height in time for flowering.

In one of the above pictures it shows the slightest bit of leaf discoloration. These are the only two leaves displaying this damage. It has been there for a week and has not spread.

Now my big focus is on sexing the plants and culling the males. From what I understand, I should be able to determine sex within a week to ten day.

Anybody have any thoughts on what strain I'm growing here?

So far so good, eh? Well it would certainly appear so from your latest batch of photos. Great job.

That bit of localized discoloration is minor heat stress and nothing to worry about. That part of the leaf probably got hit with a freakish 'hot spot' or something.

As for strain, are you saying you don't know yourself what you're growing? Lol. Those 'mystery' days seem like a distant memory to me. There's really no way in high heaven I can take a guess before seeing their mature nugs, but your broad fan leaves indicate an indica dominant plant... which is good for you since you have limited space.

Looking good! In the beginning it's hard to find a good balance between fretting the small stuff and making sure to catch something before it get's out of hand! Good job keeping an eye out, but if it's not getting worse, don't worry. Like Jin said it's likely a hot spot burn :) Keep up the good work!

Yeah after I posted, before I cut them down. I decided that one was a female. I cut the rest out. Changed the res water and focused all the lights on the lone female. Those pics are a lot better than my eyesight. That is for sure.
