My first real grow: hydroponic CFL stealth!!

Well, some interesting turn of events: I looked EEEEEEEEEEEEeeeverywhere for rockwool/stonewool/rapid-rooters etc etc but found NOTHING, and the closest hydroponic store I could find online was at least a 2 hour drive away. My seeds are all sprouted and I thought I better get them into something quick so I threw them into some peat pellets and put two under the drip system. This has me worried though, as the peat holds the water real well and my timer has a 20ish minute watering cycle 3 times a day. Any suggestions for how to proceed?

The other two seeds I think im going to throw in soil and go the tried and true method, that way if I fuck this up I can still have some good turnout. They can live in the closet as well.

Also I took everyones advice and bought 2 more 6500k CFLs and spray painted the white PVC. Right now im working on something to cover over the fish tank because I dont really want to paint that.

Thanks for all the help so far :D!

calm down youngsters. apparently clf's are fine for vegging. you haters all know that hps is the only way for flowering 2 unless u like to just look at cannabis.

zaq if you have some mylar or some reflective material you can put around your resevoir that would work 2. Do not use aluminum foil..it will be very bad.

haha you say bio bizz is the best... who will believe you when youre still using fluorescents lol get a HID and stop wasting fertilizers[/quo

i use cfls for vegging which are better than hps's for vegging and i got a hps for flowering and that means i get bigger plants out of the cfls than the hps and every time the hps is on is GETTING WEED
even useing a hps you want fertilizers
So yh i think you a fucking noob ... you start talking shit when you dont even know how i grow mine .....thats WHAT FUCKS ME OFF WITH YOU NOOB

Hey! well its been a full week since the beginning of germination and got a few pictures for you guys. The first one is the two pots for the 3rd and 4th plants and the 2 new CFL's. I took that the other day and since have put a magazine on the side of the tank until I can get some mylar.

The second is my new and improved ventilation system. The fan has one in and one out and on the side facing the door there is cardboard directing the flow in/out the bottom of the door. I plan to get a length of tube to grab the out air from the top of the closet.

The third picture is the two guys on the drip system. I think they are getting too much water so I may just cut off one watering cycle completely.

the smaller pot has not made much progress, its just popping out the top a little, but the big pot has made the most progress. It was the seed that cracked the last and was kept out of soil/peat the longest, and yet it has its first two leaves already!!! And all I have been watering is that syringe once daily.

My next mission is to go grab some of that mylar and coat the fishtank and the walls if i have enough, get that tube, and then grab some small rocks for the two hydro guys to grow in!! Exciting!!:mrgreen:

Hey Stranger, DUGOUT here. Just thought I would put in my 2 cents. I use super tea mix which is also all organic which is the best for your plants. It consists of Bat, Seagull and worm Guauno. It is from the Guano Co. Plus another thing I like it is made in the US. I have been told that Guano is the best for your plants which I a not sure whether it is the best or not but I am giving it a try and it seems to be working very well. I also have a drip system with 2 plants in it and 3 in miracle grow potting soil. I just wanted to see the difference in the grow. 4 plants looked great but one I left in between the paper towels and the root got intierly to long about 6 in. and it has stretched to the point I think it is going to be weak and not make it. BE VERY CAREFUL ABOUT APPLYING NUTES I LEARNED THE HARD WAY NOT TO NUTE IN THE FIRST 2 TO 3 WEEKS and burnt up 5 very expensive seeds so I switched to some seeds I HAD FROM A BAG I BOUGHT THAT WASN'T BAD SO I AM USING THEM TO START WITH WHILE I AM ADJUSTING THE PH LEVEL PLUS I GOT IN A HURRY AND PLANTED BEFORE I GOT A PH METER AND PH UP AND DOWN. THING ARE GOING GREAT SO BURN ONE FOR ME. THE OLD HIPPY DUGOUT:joint::peace:

zaq1234 you wanna water the whole lot of soil ... not just around the stem of the plant ....as roots do grow

You don't have to "water the whole lot of soil" if you've got good soil. The water will spread out evenly if you give them enough and the soil is good.

All you have to do is check right after a watering cycle and see if the whole pot is damp. (Slip a trowel down the side and pry it back slightly so you can get an idea of how things are all the way down if you want to be extra thorough.) As long as your soil isn't damp before watering you're probably not overwatering, and as long as the water is soaking out to all the soil you're not underwatering.

Yh ok my Bad lol i dont call every one a newb but work it out if no water the soil dies.
look at deserts no water = death ....so when the roots grow to the dead soil you will find it slows down growth and unhealthy roots..!!
