in other plant news... lol

looking very nice, cool to see how topping vs. untopping goes...

as far as the bulbs go... here is what i can say- and i am not the best- because i prefer to use HID light and not FL's but...

I have heard- and know from buying CFL's for side lighting, that their are two spectrums- red and blue, blue spectrum is over 5000K, k stands for kelvin (a light spectrum rating system) Reds are below 3000K for vegetative growth you want Blue, and for flowering you want Red...

This is pretty critical- you'd better make sure you ask some questions wherever you are buying them so you know what your K rating is...

And you'd better plan on having to buy more bulbs for flowering...

I though, and still think- that T5's were the size of the fixture, you can get red and blue T5's as far as i know... and T5's are a longer light that shorter compact fluorescents

and why not use HID's?

Here in a couple of weeks we are getting the 400w hps from HTG Supply that will go in the flowering box that we are building in a couple weeks. The site says the light will cover 4" x 4" area with the 400w wich is good since i am only building a box that is 4" x 3" . For the veg box we are going to use 3 48" dual fixtures for a while till we buy another 400w mh .

sounds very smart...

If you dont mind me asking, who is we, i am very curious for some reason, a friend or a spouse?

I have the 400 hps from HTG and if anything it can provide light to a slightly bigger space, so you should be more than safe with the 400... I have mine in a 4x4 room as well and i love it, still wish i had the 600, but if i did, i'd prly still want another one lol- no such thing as too much light... only too close a light...

Lol I like that "no such thank as to much light just to close" thats a good rule of thumb . I might consider the 600w , I wonder if you could tell the diff in bud production ? Oh and as for the we I was talking about my roommate/best friend the plants in the tan pots are his. We do everything 50/50 on the supplies and whatever else we need .

Very cool! A best friend is a best friend, no weed indeed part needed lol, I miss having a best friend... your lucky... growing together is great, I am involved in something slightly similar...

Enjoy,
OB

p.s. get the 600 if you can afford it, you wont regret it, then if you ever wanna get cocky, you can just add another and have 1200 better than any 1000 because its centered over plants...

Last night I went to walmart and bought 2 more 48" light fixtures and the plant bulbs . We hung them up and man they look great and fit prefect side by side . I have been measureing my plants and the ones that I had under the plant bulbs ranged from 4 1/2" to 6" while the ones i had under thekitchen and bath bulbs were only 3 1/2 to 4" so the plant bulbs deffently make a difference .
Two days after fimming four of my plants I Have noticed the new topps starting to grow a little but it will take a few more days before any real growth is noticed.
The nodes on the plants are starting to branch out and are looking nice. I am contemplating on when to start my next set of seedlings, monday will be 3 weeks from planting the sprouts so if i start my next ones monday will they harvest about three weeks after the first set? ..................................................................... 15 minutes later after talking to my roommate on the phone, he wants to order seeds from the doc for our next grow so tonite we will be sitting down and shopping for seeds . I think i will go ahead and germinate the ones I have and order from the doc to . I've been thinking alot about a SOG lately and it seems to be heading that way. lol.:joint::peace: Blueberry

Hello again everybody.
Friday I started 23 more seeds germinateing in a bowl . These will be my next set of plants , but they are still bagseed . Number one is up to almost 8 inches today with 4 and 7 not to far behind.
Last nite we ordered seeds from Dr.Chronic , I got a 10 pack of Dutch Passion's Purple #1 and my roommate got a 10 pack of Nirvana White Widow . These will be here this week or the begining of next week so we should have them planted in a few weeks.
We have decided to do the sea of green method so we will be makin a flower box that is 4' x 4' x 6'5 . That should give us plenty of room for a SOG . We figured we could fit about 50 2 liter bottles in the veg box so we will probaly keep 30-40 plants in the veg box at a time . Right now we are starting everthing from seed but hopefully will have a couple good mothers from the Purple and the White Widow so we can start cloning.:joint::peace: Blueberry

I wrote a email to the doc today asking him if i could change my order from Purple#1 to AK48 and he was very helpful and now I have my ak's on the way.

widow is a sativa, not really meant to be SOGed... It a very tempermental plant- easy to over nute and easy to stunt... it will be a tricky sog plant... AK-48 is more well suited, but even then i think you'd be better off with doing an all natural grow with maybe some topping... Do you not have the vertical space?

Ok maybe sog was the wrong term , I plan on gowing as much as I can fit in the boxes . Starting New seeds every three weeks until i find a strong mother to keep and then I will start cloning so I dont have to start from seed .
