Topping and Fimming of your plants need not be the headache most make it out to be.
Simply follow the instructions below and your well on your way to being a professional in Fimming and Topping.

Topping a Plant

1. Locate the very top of your plant and cut through the main stem just below the newest growth. This should be done after the 3rd or 4th leaf set but can be done at any time after the 3rd leaf set.

2. Shows Plant Top cut off and where the 2 new Branches that will form a "Y" in the main stem will grow from.

3. Shows the newly topped plant after 2 days of growth, notice the Y in the Stem Forming.

FIMMING A PLANT!

Fimming is actually no different that topping, what fimming does is virtually the exact same thing only your leaving part of the new growth. This only takes of part of the new growth and actually topping the very very new growth which is very hard to see.

What this ends up doing is making it seem as if your getting 4 new tops right next to eachother when its actually only 2 at the very top (like topping) but since it was cut so closely to the next newest set of fanleaves 2 branches which would have formed there anyways seems to make it look like there is 4 new tops.

This is how you go about doing this.

1. Locate the very top of the new growth

i agree with otacon, foil is awful also a really good cheap solution that i use with good results, is WHITE trash compacter bags, line the walls with about 2 or 3 layers of that and couple it with a nice full spectrum bulb and your growth rate and yeild will be rediculous!
good luck!

Hi there just reading all your journal. Nice one.

Just a comment on the wiring of your bulbs, which might help.

Going by your diagram, you've wired in "series", you should wire in "parallel."
Basically and I mean basically and probably not even close to fact but worth looking into.. parallel means brighter than series.
And I think if one bulb goes in a series set up old Christmas tree lights they all go off.
Which would be bad news for your plants.
Also I'm sure in series each blub gets dimmer as you move away from the power source. Ohm's law I think.
I'm no electrician, but like I said worth reading into.

Had a quick google... here are a few bits on it for ya.

This one here is like a quiz, but good

Good luck with your grow.
I'm using CFL's too. I've 8 light around 2 plants on mine.

Hey thanks for trying to help but i do have it wired in Parallel so every bulb ahs a - and + and don't rely on the other bulbs to stay lit. and as how ohms law it doesn't apply to me since i have it in Parallel. Thanks tho
