My first grow

Hi all.
So finally got sick of paying top dollar for my buds and im having a crack at growing my own.
Ive never grown before but done alot of surfing on the net and made up a shopping list then hit up my local hydro store .
I brought...
1x 400watt HPS kit with vege and flower bulbs
1x centrifugal fan
1x digital thermometer/hydrometer
1x roll of silver paper looking stuff and a roll of silver tape
1x fan speed controller
4 meters Thermal ducting
1 x 600x1800x400 closet
1 x small clip fan

And all the other bits like clone gell, superthrive, canna terra vega nutrients, digital timer, surge protector etc.

I ordered some seeds from herbies but in the mean time a workmate gave me a couple of clones.

My temp with the lights on was 29-30° with an axial fan but when out today and dropped a couple bucks on a decent centrifugal fan and now temp seems to be sitting around 24.8 but tonights the first night with the lights on.i work afternoon shift so be interesting to see what temp sits at aftet a few hours.ive decided im going to attempt a SCROG grow!

Ill try post some pics either tonight or tommorow.im currently working on upgrading my room to a 1m x 1m x 2m cupboard for a bit more room for the ladys.
Cheers in advance for any pointers or info you wish to help me out.

UPDATE: new rooms up and operational.had a case of the spider mites the last few days but caught them early and brought some spotless concentrate (organic and safe to use during flowering) that you mix with a litre of water and wiped them out.still gonna spray every now and then just to be sure theyre all gone.i installed a 200mm intake to draw fresh cool air in from outside and now my temps are a little lower than desired so im gonna look at buying a thermostat to run my centrifugal exaust fan then hopefully it will let the room heat to 25° then the fan will kick in when the temp rises slightly higher.ive also tested my tap water PH and it was around 8 so i brought some PH down and ive worked out 1 drop per litre seems to bring the tap water into the 6.5 margin.ive mixed up 3 litres of water and also added my first mixture of nutrients and just under 1/4 of what the bottle recomends so hopefully i should start seeing some significant growth now ive ironed out a few issues 20160918_181439.jpg 20160918_181451.jpg 20160918_181500.jpg 14741835984901222280597.jpg

So its been a while since i posted but here goes.
I managed to get rid off my spidermite invasion.i think i caught them just in time.its been 2 weeks since then and basically my rooms all finished but i havnt had much growth.even as a noob i know i should have plants around almost half a meter by end of week 3.so i tested my runoff ph and it was around 5.0 and i know alot of people say "thats not a very good way to get your soil ph" but the way i see it if im putting water in ph'd around 6.5 then surely it should be comming out atleast around that number.anyway ive flushed them twice in the last 2 weeks making sure theyre really dry before re-flushing (avoiding overwatering) and keep getting around 5.0 readings so i recon my organic soil must be too hot with maybe slow releasing ferts.also i made another first timers mistake by starting in 12litre pots.so basically my plants have been growing down (if at all with the super hot ph)....so yesterday i brought some canna pro soil and some 4 litre pots and mixed up 4 litres of water to 1 drop of superthrive then checked the ph wich didnt need adjusting then transplanted my girls.after that they looked really sad but after running them under the lights for 24 hours straight (lights up high to avoid stressing further) they seem to have bounced back .
Also i recieved my seeds from herbies last week.i used the cup of water method untill the seeds sank then put them in a wet paper towel on top of the water cylinder and theyve all germinated even the freebies!!yesterday i planted them into jiffy pots and put clay balls into a humidity dome and sat the jiffys on top and theyre going really well.my afghani kush is basically on steroids lol.
Also this weekends project consists of a bar fridge converted into a clone/mother room running a 125 watt fluro.so once thats running hopefully i can slowly vege in there while my main room flowers for 8 weeks.1475100880692-288104015.jpg 1475100996364-418583757.jpg

Hey. Welcome to the fabulous world of mite farming. Awful things. Bug control is a never ending battle. Try mixing in Neem granules or powder into the potting mix at about a heaped tablespoon a pot. Also sprinkle it on top of the soil at about the same rate. That'll kill off any bug that has part of its lifecycle in the soil like Fungus Gnats. You'll probably experience those. Look them up. Caused by overwatering. Cured by allowing soil to dry out between watering.
I'm also resigned to having to spray twice per grow. The life cycle of the mite dictates that you'll need to do it twice about a fortnight apart. Or something like that. I use Conquerer. In New Zealand that's the same as Yates Bug Spray in the premixed bottle.

Good work on the first grow. I've also just cracked a few seeds including an Afghan kush, so interested to see how yours turns out.
