i think your talking about the "cree" led lights? ive heard good things about those and maybe you could use those for side lighting. ive also heard you can use UV reptile lights to boost resin production. ive wanted to test that but have yet to find a uv light like that. ive also been looking into building my own LED panel, but its just so complicated and im pretty strapped for cash at the moment. i just want to test it though, i think my 150w HPS cooltube does the best for the price i payed.

i may have to try your home made cool tube idea, 400 watt hps and mh lights in my cab would make a huge difference in my yeilds, and yes i have 30" from top to bottom and my pots for end flowering are about 4.5' tall by 6" wide, so i have roughly, 25.5 inches to work with, but with the lights taking up abut 2-3inches im hoping to harvest at about 18-20 inches, eventually i want to upgrade to hydro as well, by the end of my project i want to have this cabinet up to the maximum yields it can hold, and with regular SOGS growing 4 plants per foot, ill be growing per 15"x15", to allow more air flow and bud growth, also ill have to interior 6 inch fans blowing about 50 cfm each, one on each side for air flow, so im sure that will also reduce heat for me, so im sure a 400 watt should run fine with a cool tube

the hardest part was finding the glass, i was planning on taking a straight glass vase a cutting the end of it off, (with a cool alcohol/string cutting trick,) but i got lucky and found a hurricane glass at a thrift store i got some pvc pipe fittings that fit the 3 inch duct and also fit right into the end of the glass, so i foil taped it....like almost everything else lol ...to the fittings and put a small computer fan at each end of the tubes .on one side i had to use a thin slice of a tuna can to keep the fan blades from hitting the tube.i wired both fans together and put them both on a timed power strip so the fans only went on when the light is on. then i cut a hole in each side of the flowering chamber and ran the whole cooltube system seperate from the normal exhaust.works like a charm. i run another computer fan as a mover right under the glass and i can get the plants touching the glass without burning its so cool.it makes quite the difference as far as light intensity and yeild.

ahh see my issue with making my own, is that i have a 5" inline fan for my exhaust, and with space restrictions i would have to incorporate both my exhaust and my cool tube, together. not to difficult, but not cheap or easy. also im thinking of just using 80w or 120 w led ufos, one for each side, but keep the flouro for the young clones. not sure yet

sounds like a vented hood might be better then you can just leave one end open to suck the exhaust out. if you have enough money for led's i would do that, but they get expensive for the good ones. i heard the ebay led's are crap.

Hey buddy. Long time cab grower with 2 square feet of floor space.


For a small cab I'd recommend LED - the heat of HID can be a killer. And led can fit your long squat space better too.

The led forum on here is really good - go check out some of the DIY threads using new generation gear - big cob chips from Cree and Bridgelux. I am loving my DIY setup - had it for two months now. 100W of warm/nuetral white - fit and customised to work with existing cab, dimmable, cool running.


You look like you will have cool air around the cab so with the right ventilation you will be ok to run HID. I never found the right ones for my cab, but I've always loved seeing micro grows with cool tubes - they get giant buds in the right growers hands.
