was thinking about trying some Ollas( unglazed ceramic jars) for the summer, you just burry them leaving just the rim above ground and fill them up with water and plant your plants next to them like autowatering.

I have no real favorites, after 25+ years of gardening. whatever puts the most grub on my table, and keeps the most money in my pocket. I like my root veggies; beets and carrots especially. ollas are very cool. I'm headin' to Arizona, and I will be using them on a large scale. they ain't cheap, and I'm thinking about making them. I'm still in the research phase. I do not till or even turn my garden soil; that kills off microbes. at the end of the season, I manure and mulch my beds, cover them, and in the Spring, I just plant my starts right in the un-worked bed. every time we till......we plant weeds. http://nutsrootsandcarion.blogspot.com/2014/04/olla-berms.html

Dam man I'm jealous. You're a couple weeks ahead of me at least . That's one thing about the city is you're about a zone warmer than everyone else. I'd love to see it.

That's exactly right about tilling. Disturbed soil will produce the most weeds. Ever see mounds of soil in empty lots? Mad weeds growing out of it. And new construction homes...everywhere the soil has been disturbed will unearth weed seeds that can lie in wait for years until brought to the surface.

any time, brother. I'll email you my addy and phone number. I'm home except for Wednesdays.
yeah, my micro-climate in the side yard is like Zone 8. the south-facing wall, painted white, and all the stone I've scavenged from the riverfront add up to a lot of thermal mass. I have some 2" by 8" by 8' oak, for raised beds I'm giving away, if you need them. (4) 8-footers.

Im interested it the black prince peppers where did you obtain them.. I just found some african Peppadews last week... Im growing a couple of different peppers myself: Fatal II and Tollis Sweet Italian. I want to grow more uncommon peppers too. I always grow my usual jalopenos, super chills, banana, ( habanero and serranos haven't really bloomed too well) etc...

awesome peppers! how do you know about these peppers and how did you get them? Quadrino peppers? Ive never heard of them but they look fabulous!

The black prince and Bolivian Rainbow(purple ones), i got localy from a guy at the farmers market, they were seeds. If you want some pods from either or, and try growing those out let me know. I havent tried to clone them yet but maybe i can get on that.

im just lucky i know a couple people close to me that are into rare peppers too. If you have a facebook you can just about any pepper your looking for. Fatalii.net, rareseeds.com, fordsfeiryfoodsandplants.com , those are 3 reputable sites for pepper seeds.

thank you for the website info. When you got the seed from farmers market, did you soak the seeds first and did you use soil or hydroponic medium (i.e. rockwool or root riot)? I had gotten a type of mexican pepper that came from mexico and I could not get them to bud from the seed?

some i did with paper towel method, others right into soil. I seem to have good success either way.
