My first attempt at topping

I'm not sure why you picked the second node, but you butchered her. Expect slow growth as she works to replace the greenery. Plants breathe thru little organelles under the fan leaves. Remove too many and the plant will stunt and/or die. General rule is never remove more than you are leaving if just topping or FIM'ing. Good luck, BigSteve.

The reason I attempted to go after the second node is from reading Uncle Ben's topping thread. The plant was only 5 nodes high when I topped her.

I may have gone a bit to low on the 2nd node tho.

Wait until it gets a couple weeks older, and just turn the branches into clones. The plant has been really stressed already, cloning is stressful, so you're headed down to hermie hollow.

Don't listen to these guys. Looks like you had about 7 true leaves before the top, that's perfect. If you are going to top, might as well do it now vs. later as long as the roots are developed and can handle the cut.

Here is mine about 60 days ago (when I did the same top at same growth as yours) and current...

I do know what Im talking about. I grew several from the same strain, topped at 2, 4, 5, and 7, and the one topped at 2, wasn't really worth the space it took up compared to others.

If pie knew what he was talking about, he would understand that although marijuanas recovery abilities are remarkable, and that he and you might get a good yield, you have indeed stunted your plant. It would have been much bigger and healthier.

Topping done as above absolutely does not slow down the plant growth. They actually get more vigorous.

Anything topped above the third node will not create colas, but instead just fan out branches. Results in larger yields when done below the third node.

BTW Flaming Pie is a woman grower. Maybe prodigal had a bad seed and cutting it just brought out the weakness. He does know what he's talking about, relative to his growing experience, as all of us are in the same boat. Didn't mean to insult anyone, just sharing my results.

Later guys and gals, good luck on your grows.

It only slows growth for a day. It allows you to have a bushier plant with a pretty even canopy.

Even canopy means more of the high intensity light reaches bud sites.

Idk if this is propper topping...but I let my plant grow about 5 nodes then chop back to third node and remove bottom node so I remain with nodes 2,3 I have not removed bottom set yet as you can see
