So they have to dry fully then u burp them?
Noooooo you dont want to fully dry them before whackin em in jars. That Hay smell is becuase youve overdried the buds. You want to put the buds in the jars when they still have some moisture left in- and just burp regulary once a day for a few days and then once every two days and so on.
No moisture no cure. There s a fine line between dry weed and semi dry weed. the Semi dry weed is when you want to jar up.

the pine smell is most likely due to the fact that you didn't allow the bud to flower to its full potential like eating a green banana instead of a yellow one. You probably didn't over dry your bud unless you left it to dry for 2 weeks in 80F+ temps

yeah spot on htx, put a hygrometer in the jar if ya can and if its over 70% after a couple hours, take em out for 6 hours hang dry then put in jars again. if your around the 70% mark every two days carefully take em out place em on some newspaper and put them back in straight away in the jars, just so there in different order etc
slowly bring it down to 65% once ya there, its once a week open etc.
62% every two weeks. works for me big time

oh the main thing is, you need to make sure your buds are ripe when you chop. This could be another reason for that not great smell..

Does it smell like your lawn after you've mowed it?
If so thats the chlorophyll coming out of your nugs..if this is the case you should get a more desired smell from them after you jar cure them for a while like your doing

Looks like the questions have already been answered, but I did want to add one thing. No, you do not want to dry the buds fully before curing. The reason for curing is to slowly dry the buds. I mean SLOWLY. You put them in jars until the moisture from the inner parts of the bud evaporate out to the outer parts. Then you burp the jar and let that moisture out. You do this regularly for a couple of weeks. This way the bud drys slowly and you preserve the smell and taste. If you do not cure and you just allow the buds to dry too quickly you will get what I call a "schwag" smell. It still smells like weed, but low quality weed.

If your bud smells bad, and I don't mean hay smell, but more of a dirty socks smell, then you might have to watch out for mold. If you get a nasty, moldy smell, immediately pull the buds out of the jars and lay them out on some newspaper or brown paper bag, until that smell goes away.
