So I posted this in the newbie section to no response... Here goes...

My res was being consumed by some kind of slimey gooey grime so I decided to clean it and give new water and fresh nutes after three weeks of great results. My plants were growing fast, the leaves were getting tremendous, and the roots were a bright healthy white. All this despite me never really cleaning the res but I did change the water about every week. So I change this time and something strange is going on. The very next day I have spotted crumpled leaves and the roots are browning. Root Rot? This is my first time sooooo you tell me... And I finally cleaned the damn thing thoroughly and got rid of the gunk but is it too late for my girls?:? They were all clones and I decided to flower the mothers because I'm impatient! The mothers were in pots. Who got the info I need to hear???

Well damn, I have root rot. FUCK!!! My res is super clean now and I rinsed the roots yesterday. Now I'm putting a frozen water bottle in the res to keep the temp down and adding this stuff I picked up at the local hydro shop. the cure.jpgIts all they had so I hope it works. Thanks @dipstick and once again FUCK!!! If it does not work I will look for the stuff you suggested online perhaps. Side note I hope it has nothing to do with these Hydro setups because I plan to order a few more and make my own in the same image... Peace...

what you have is brown algae, you can throw good money after bad buying junk from the hydro shop and never fix it. Suggestions are to add 1 tsp of bleach per gal of water per day or just transplant to dirt and they will make a full recovery. Been through this many times. good luck.
after further review i don't see snot or slime on the roots, go with some peroxide. the bleach wont hurt either but try it it at 1/2 tsp per gal.

well since you already have the hygrozyme use it with peroxide. ive tried it and not had much luck with it , the browning on your roots may just be from the micro in your nutes.

I have been dealing with brown slime algae for many months now, and I have to say I can't be sure that is what you have. From the pic it looks like plain ole root rot. Physan will take care of both anyway, and it's not expensive. You will know if it's the slime if it bounces right back. Root rot actually responds well to things like, more bubbles, chilled res, ect, whereas the slime will thrive through all of that. Also, root rot tends to drop the PH, while the slime causes it to rise.

If it is indeed the slime, hygrozyme is about the worst thing you could use. You will need to read that thread several times and decide whether you want to try the sterile route, or run beneficial microbes in your res. If you want to go sterile, I suggest using Dutch Master Zone rather than SM-90. It's reported to work better and it's cheaper. I've had my bottle since last Feb and it's still 1/4 full. Costs like $20.

If you decide to give up on DWC, I don't see any reason to switch to dirt. I switched to ebb and flow trays using hydroton and the growth is practically the same as DWC. I felt out of my element at first but it's easy to get the hang of. It's true one way to save currently afflicted plants is to sterilize the roots and put them into soil. I prefer to do this until they get a root base, then I rinse them off once again and put them into hydroton.

One last thing, be careful with your waste water when using physan 20, although it is considered relatively safe for humans,(when using basic safety equipment) they say it can kill a septic system in no time.

Good on ya heisenberg about that septic system, i just moved into the country and i now have a septic system and i havnt given anything like that much thought.....i would stay far away from they hydrozyme that shit wrecked my stealth hydro, like i said i have the exact same setup and ive tried alot of expensisve shit, give h202 a try man i doubted it from the begining but it worked great!!! Whatever heisenberg has to say would probally be good advice as well, he seems to have played with it long enough..

P.s. I have almost given up like 6 times now on my stealth grow, but i just think by time i get it figured out nothing will be able to stop me

Oooh i just seen that pic of hydrozyme, throw that shit to the curb man!!!! Go back and ask for 29% h202 they just started selling it again "it was temperarily banned by goverment because folks were using it as napalm bombs"

haha, FUCK!!! their was slime before I rinsed so I'm waiting on that physan 20 stuff. Ordered it from amazon. The res is cool for now as I cleaned it with bleach and rinsed the hell out of the entire plant. I think the suds forming on the surface is the algae coming back though. Either way I will beat this thing! I already used the hydrozyme but will never use it again thanks again, to everyone.

Keep the hygrozyme around for a while, you never know when you might find a use for it. I would keep it around until it's reached it's shelf life anyway.

Just to update... That damn Hygrozyme makes that slime/algae generate.
The provided thread states this already but I have proven it again, lol.
So now, waiting for the physan 20 and also ordered aquashield and subculture m and B... Reading is good;)

I have a light blues res like you... you might wanna paint the top or cover it with tape because the light I use was powerful enough that it would shine inside a bit. You want your res as dark as possible(black if possible) to keep root rot down.

When I used physan 20 in in a dwc system it made a huge soap bubble mess. I think its is ore designed to clean stuff than add to a res. Be prepared for a bubble clean up.

Wiseguy316 is right use the bleach method I have tried it and it works. Thanks for the advice wiseguy316 it worked out. If its slime the bleach will work if its reg. root rot I am not sure. Hope this helps.

i dealt with root rot issues as well. my solution: regular OTC hydrogen peroxide from wal-mart or wherever. I put about 1 tablespoons in about 4 gallons of water (in a 10 gallon res), and I havent dealt with the issue since. just remember to add more h2o2 as you add more water to your res

same thing happened to me its algae bubbleponics uses those light blue tubs so what you are gonna have to do is cover that res in black duct tape because light is getting in your res. Also wat are your res temps and your ph levels try keeping the res temps around 60-65F going over 70 usally causes root rot and your ph should be between 5.8-6.3
