tommyhobby: u see the link for that inline duct fan???? whtchea think

you can get the same one at lowes or home depot if you have one close by. I heard they are a bit weaker than the vortex style centrifugal inline fans and for an extra 30 bucks or so you can get those. ofcourse if you're on a tight budget, I think this one will do.

Ive got the same exact fan only i used dryer vent ducting for the duct. It works ok but does move slower with ductwork attached. Its really quiet though. good for intake but poor exhaust. Im getting ready to switch mine.

the 8" fan has a BOOSTED cfm of 500....which is when its working with a fan on a furnace or a/c....the non-boosted cfm is 210. http://www.homedepot.com/h_d1/N-5yc1vZ1xi0/R-100080191/h_d2/ProductDisplay?langId=-1&storeId=10051&catalogId=10053

im gettin one today or tomorrow...whenever i get off my lazy ass and go to home depot. im not hookin any duct work to it though, just mountin it to the wall with a flange and puttin a light proof vent on the outside.

nice diy. +rep.
thats exactly what I did. It works ok but my dayton blower is fuckin strong so IM going to switch em and use the inline for intake.

It works great for you because your exhausting straight outside. You're using it exactly what it was intended for - an inline duct *booster* fan. You have no carbon filter rigged to the exhaust end of it. Meaning there's no resistance.

Not bashing, just explaining a bit for anyone googling this thread, like me. :)

I'm currently trying to find a fan that will scrub air inside, with a carbon filter on the end of it. Looking like i'm going to have to drop 100$+ on a god damn fan. Ridiculous.

Sorry for the necro btw. Peace.

100-150 bucks for a good 4 inch inline to properly work with a filter, or 6 months with bubbas dick up your ass?

thanks ,the room is 4x4x6.last year for summer was getting 100 deg.f + ! now this year in the low 80's last week when it was real hot here it was like 88,so its good for me,also makes negative presure when closed up so it also takes smell out with it...
"it also takes smell out with it.." That's not a good thing.

I bought a couple of these same fans from lowes. very weak. not even strong enough to ventilate my small closet grow. then i bought a couple of the cheapest real inline fans from htg with some fan controllers and my shitt stays the temp i want.
If there's a harbor freight nearby, the have the same speed controllers even cheaper.

question about cfm...bigger the number the better?? expensive fanss i see are like 170 cfm...i found one for like 45$ and its 500cfm...

im thinkin about gettin the 500cfm inline duct fan..for exhaust and then gettin 1-2 of those cheaps ones for intake..perhaps one for another exhaust..
Don't bother putting one on the exhaust, the 500 cfm fan will overpower it and pull air backwards through it.

The inline booster fans don't move much air. I bought the exact ones, the 8" and 10", and even doubled them up. I didnt run any reducer's at all, just 8", and 10" ducting, and i'd bet the 8" moved maybe 200 cfm, and the 10" maybe 350. they arn't really good for anything....as a matter of fact, i needed a 8" piece of duct to make a flange, and i took the motor and fan out and it worked in a pinch. so at least i got some use out of it!

I ended up buying real 8", 750 CFM vortex fans. and 435 cfm vortex fans, now im moving some air.

my blower only has to move air a few feet and I use cfl lighting so the big vortex fans and like are overkill for me . and no scrubber hooked up any thing .if I were to upgrade to hps I would have to upgrade but this works good

IMG_00000163.jpg:hump:Why spend scads if you don't have to!! I go for the cheap and what is laying around. Will do this as it seems like a rip off to purchase high end name brand stuff when the same results can be had for less.

I use a similar set up to cool a DYI cool tube I made from an old pyrex baking tube...it's called a bake around or something? But it does the job....keeps the light and the tent pretty cool. I've only got a 400w light tho so not sure how it would do with a higher wattage bulb. At the end of the day tho you'll find vortex fans much better, I have one in another tent and it cools great...the ones from Lowes just don't seem to be able to stand up to the constant use we put them through...mine lasted almost a year under constant use before the blade stuck and fried the motor....now I got fire extinguishers in both tents just in case!
