My 2nd Grow Journal 1000w MH HPS Feminized Seeds Organic Subcool Super Soil

 Hello Everyone:-o

Started my 2nd grow tonight, had only done bag seed before. This will be my biggest grow so far. I placed 10 all feminized seeds in wet paper towel on my seedling tray with a heating mat and humidity dome. I'm waiting on package containing a temperature control for the heating mat, this is my first time using one. I've checked the heat frequently tonight. I have a temperature probe between the mat and the tray. It reads roughly 72*.

Seed Strains: All bought from Attitude, no problem with t shirt delivery
OG Kush x 5 from Reserva Privada
Headband x 1 from Reserva Privada
Bubble Cheese x 1 from Big Buddha Seeds
Super Lemon Haze x 1 from Green House Seeds
Northern Light Blue x 1 from Delicious
Easy Sativa x 1 from UFO

Right after the babies pop I'll be putting them all in moistened rapid rooters, taproot down. They will then be transplanted into 1 gallon bags with Roots Organics Soil. I would have put them straight in the 3 gal bags to prevent stressing plants but ill be needing time to prepare super soil.
For nutrients I'll be going with Subcool's Super Soil
https://www.rollitup.org/subcools-old-school-organics/338384-2010-revised-super-soil-recipe.html

His recipe calls for it to be cooked for 30 days, just kept in the warm grow room. Like he instructs to do I'll be using this hot mix in the bottom half of the bags ill be finishing with, the 3 gal bags. I figure more like 20 days of cooking would suffice, I've known people to use the mix right after making it.

With using this super soil hopefully I will only have to worry about watering plants. I'll be using tap water, letting it sit overnight to evaporate chlorine before use. PH always be tested, I use the test drops that change the water color. I'll be investing in the Hanna HI 98129 asap.

For lighting I have multiple CFLs in both warm and cool spectrum for seedlings early veg,. The majority of the grow will be under my aircooled 1000 watt digital system, capable with both MH and HPS bulbs. I'll be using MH through veg and HPS flower, duh haha.

The grow area is 9' x 13' although myy HID only really covers like 10 percent of that. The hood is vented with my 6" High Velocity Inline Fan 424 cfm, thing is crazy strong for one light. It will be on both a speed controller and this very handy temperature control http://www.ezhydroshop.com/products/C.A.P.-Cooling-Thermostat.html. Temperature problems were big my first grow so I really want to have a handle on it this time. I will also have one large stationary fan and a smaller oscilating. Think that will be enough? lol
So thats the rough plan for the grow, wish me luck and stay in touch:weed:
I know I'd still be alot further back in growing knowledge if it wasn't for this site.
I'll try to update at least weekly, photos will be following shortly & I'm always open for questions or advice.

The seedling mat has deffinately speeded along germination, its been about 24 hours since first putting in germination tray.
Out of the 10 seeds, half have already shown their taproot. The Headband, Northern Lights Blue & 3 of the OG's have popped. Loving this heating mat, have to check on the towel drying out more often but if it means half my girls pop in a day thats fine with me. Going to wait till the taproot is about 1/4 in then will move to the rapid rooters.

Will be interesting to see how your C.A.P. thermostat works out here. Could be a very handy gadget indeed...

I hope so, I had some pretty bad high and low temp my first grow. The worst being the middle of winter, dropping to 50* at worst. Not to mention wasted electricity on venting and heating.

Somethings are alot easier when you have the right tool, especially growing.

Most seeds have popped. Only two OG dont show taproot yet. I've moved all the others into rapid rooters. I used this method.

- Put the seeds in a cup of water until they crack and the taproot sticks out alittle. This take about 2 days for me.
- When time has come. I take the Rapid Rooters and make the holes alittle bit bigger and alittle bit deeper. (use tweezers or the eraser end of a pencil)
- Then I put the seeds in the R.R. about 1/4" down and cover the holes with some excess soil from the R.R.
- Spray the R.R. with water, but do not make it soggy or drip. Just need it moist.
- I put them in a small tupperware container and cover it. Check on them everyday, and keep them moist by spraying them.
- I drain out the excess water in the container, I have never done what the instructions say to do. lol
- Make sure the temp's aren't to high
- They should sprout in 3 days or so

The Thermostat works perfect. I have it set to 76*, the room hits 78* at most. And the thermostat probe is on a 3 ft wire so its easy to place it at the top of the canopy. Definately worth the 50 bucks.

8/10 seeds transplanted to 1/2 gal grow bags filled with a mix of roots organic and some biobiz light soil. One of the seeds that I havent transplanted isnt doing so great. I planted the seeds at varying depth in the rapid rooter and I dont think i planted this one deep enough in the rapid rooter, I was afraid of them getting stuck or rotting, I read of someone with a bad success rate with rapid rooters because of this. But anyway the seed pushed itself out without developing a root to hold itself up and now the root appears to be somewhat shriveled. It's one of the OGs.

These pics of the bigger grow room were taken a couple days ago when right after moving these plants from my grow trunk to here. Thats why the light is so far away, 1000 watter.

So I guess I should mention the other young plants. They are not actually mine really to grow, although i did get them started. My grow partner is doing his first grow with these. He will be using ProBix BX ammended with 1tps dolomite lime per gallon soil. So far they have not been nuted. Next grow he will start with 1/4 strength Jack's Classic. They are from bag seed, weed wasnt that good either that we got them from. I know thats not the best soil or nutes but its what we had from my first grow and wanted to use up the soil and might as well have a beginner start with it. Since these are bagseeds I'm guessing there will only be 2 or 3 females, I've had bad luck with female rate. So o eventually all dozen or so plants will be under the one light.
