My 2nd Attempt..

hey guys

I got my 2nd lot of seeds this morning, i've just set them to germinate now using the paper towel method.

i'm going to keep them in a smaller pot this time around until they get a bit bigger and then put them in the bigger pots.

got some soil that gets good results with everyone else and i'm going to use around 30% perlite too, wanted some clay pellets but can't find any here in the UK.

got 6 seeds in total, just cheap ones.. 4 BLZ Feminised Bud seeds and 2 AK-47s.

not really sure if i should use my 125w dual spec CFL on them until they're a couple of weeks old, since i managed to screw up my last 5 plants within a couple of weeks i'd love any more tips or advice, been reading the forum for a good few hours and learnt some pretty decent shit so hopefully i'll not fuck it up this time

made a bulb holder with reflector from some old wood and reflective card, seems really sturdy and should do the job well

and the new holder in my setup with the CPU fan on to hopefully keep the stems strong :) will be setting another up for ventilation tommorow.

(the board slides on to a ledge on each side ive made on the wardrobe, i'll be doing a few up the wall to make the light adjustable)

will be adding at least another 2 CFLs for side lighting tommorow :D

i've germinated the seed and its been 2 days, i think they've dried out, the soil seems to get bone dry within a couple of hours under that light, was fine without perlite

Theres really no need to put them underneath the light until they have sprouted, germinate them for the tap root to come out plant them in moist soil and wait a couple of days for them to sprout, then place them underneath the light. Keep them in about 65 to 75 degrees for them to sprout at optimum speed. peace

personally,I find 75-85 degrees(25-30 celsius) best for germing seeds. no need for light till they pop but if thats your best way to keep them warm, cover your pots w/ a baggie to lock the moisture in until they sprout.if the soil is drying that quickly, what is your humidity?are the pots drying out completely or just the top layer? a good way to judge moisture in a pot (besides a meter)is to set up 1 pot w/ dry soil & never water it.compare the weight of it to the pots that have plants & water.

if you have learned alot from a few hours, imagine what you will learn from a few hundred hours.

thanks for the replies guys, yeah just under the light for warmth really, i have lots of seeds and i've set out germinating some more, will wrap them up in small plastic bag to keep in moisture.

humidity is around 30% with a bowl in the setup full of tepid water
