just wanted to know when is the best time to go mushroom picking, on van isl particularly..
Mid to late September, it has to rain first for them to pop up and some years that can be quite late. The weather patterns here has changed dramatically, probably from climate change.
My advice is watch the weather channels long range forecast and when you see rain forecast for the Island start packing.
After a full moon is the heaviest flush.
good luck, I moved to BC permanently after coming out too pick my first time.

hey , umm uhh wut , what your looking for is a variety of things ..... blue bruising when picked or pinched is one sign also look for a ring around the stem called the viel sometimes it is still connected to the cap ...... also what they are growing in or on is a big indication sometimes ......p. cubensis like poop! , there is another species that is native to our parts called p. cyans they are a wood loving species and are said to be some of the most potent in the world! your best bet is to go grab a mushroom handbook or look one up online :D alaways make sure you know what your eating before you do.
