Hey guys I was reading an article on auxigro which is 40% MSG and 40% GABA, it is FDA approved. They have this stuff sprayed on apples almond onions etc. and there was a study from a university that stated a 30% plus increase in yeild it went up to as far as 60% + increase. Inthe same amount of acreage . What do you guys think? Too dangerous to smoke? Or worth the increasein yeild. MSG is just salt.

Ever get headaches from Chinese food that is loaded with MSG?

It's not *just salt*.

You wanna smoke it? Be my guest. For me, there is nothing to look into, seriously.

MSG is just anther salt... actually is one of the most abundant naturally occurring non-essential amino acids. Guess why celery helps up the flavor of things in food - chalk full of MSG. Double blind testing with people supposedly sensitive to MSG has numerously disproved MSG as a cause of the dreaded "Chinese restaurant syndrome".

I'm curious about this - where's the research?

I have never been bothered by chinese food, but I despise celery...it is the only vegetable I won't eat, although I am not fond of lima beans either.

IDK about research, just experience on my part with the headaches and MSG.

Didn't even know about MSG. Then I asked my Dr about the headaches and he mentioned the Chinese angle. Switched places to one that used no MSG and the headaches went away. Enough for me, research wise. LOL

"FDA approved" is not always a good thing, just sayin'...I mean, look at the hormones and preservatives in modern foods.

MSG causes lesions on the brain, I'm good on that grow tip. I also only eat organic produce. Just because manufactures are doing something to increase yields does not mean its 100% safe.

end of story. which is why i eat all organic as well. but if you really go through with this, even just to see if yield increases without planning to smoke it personally, please document it with a dedicated thread. i'd like to observe that experiment

I'm growing a handful of plants for my mother who has cancer and she gets violently ill when we eat out at a chinese resto, even some random places will occasionally make her vomit and feel weak immediatly after we pay the bill, its not a problem for anyone else in my fam and we've pretty much narrowed it down to the msg in the food

Look into Kelp versus this stuff ... Dangerous to use (like any ag product) on any sized grow. While cannabis responds well to things that make peppers grow well (for the most part) not everything works out as a foilar application on its flowers.

Kelp and other seaweeds contain amounts of glutamic acid (MSG) and is partially responsible for why you'll find it in most super soil recipes and better foilar applications. But the approach of using something that doesn't have the balancing elements found in kelp (high asorbic acid, etc) for help in the conversion process is the lab world vs the real world thing. From what I recall this stuff has more or less been stopped as an application in a lot of areas. No idea why they stopped it, but I recall some pretty nutty theories on it.

More or less we know this works on cannabis to increase yields to some degree. But that particular product is the overkill/concentrate path that will require a lot of experimentation to gain the right balance. Plus you'd need to specify your lab result needs to test for those compounds in concentrations. I dont believe they'd show up right if the usual ones (someone please correct me on the full panel test here as needed.)

I learned this same thing recently; in fact there is a guy who wrote an entire book about food facts. The hype about MSG is like the hype about razors in apples on Halloween - there is noting behind it, There have been decades of studies on MSG and it is no worse for you than regular salt. The batter in the generals' chicken is way worse for you.
