i just spent 45 minutes in that tube. i almost hit the panic button halfway in. i'm claustrophobic and twitchy. they gave me 2 xanax 30 mins before i went in. i would never had made i without them. it a very anxious feeling. the more i thought about it the more i freaked out. it's hella loud and it vibrates and thunks and then just goes quiet. then it moves a little and starts all over. i don't now why it scares me but it just does. i fear being trapped in there. it got quiet for a few minutes and i thought maybe she forgot about me. there was just enough room at the very end that if i tilted my head waaaaay back i could see the edge of the chamber and half a ceiling tile. that's the only thing that saved me. i closed me eyes and it made it worse. then i kept dosing off from the xanax but then the machine would jolt or change sounds and wake me. i would freak when i woke. just an all around trying experience. hopefully i will never have to do that again. it took a lot of mind over matter for me.

Why dont they play music into the room?
Does it interfere with the scan?
I also don't like stuff like that as i have a fear of passing out and not being able to breathe which seems to be linked to my insomnia:blsmoke:

I hate those things...when I first went blind they were sticking me in those things all the time...everytime I went to a new specialist they were like "we need to get an MRI" and finally I freaked out so they started using the open MRI which is much better..

I just had an mri done about 6 months ago. It was no fund and they kept saying I moved and they had to redo the shot. It a long long time, I almost did not make it. I have nerve problem from a work accident, they say i will never get better, I hope my state gets MM soon or I might have to move.

Was it really the MRI that bothered you? Or was it the electrodes they had attached, just before they popped you in the oven?
no electrodes. no iv's. just me in a casket for waaay to long. it took all my will power to pull thru it. i've been waiting for this for several months now so i had to make it. she said, "at any time you feel your going to freak out then push the panic button and we will eject you. then we will call your DR." she made it sound like i would get in trouble. i love curling up in a small corner. it makes me feel safe. but to be trapped in that tube. no thank you.

Dont know if its true but i heard welders and steel workers cant have MRIs for a durration after being in the trade because if they have imbedded steel in the skin or lungs this can effect the scan . It was on a medical card i filled out a few years ago . Anybody heard of this ?

Ask for an Open MRI. If that's not an option for whatever reason, tell them you're claustrophobic, and you need some Attivan, or something else to take the edge off. It's a good idea to talk this over with ur doc beforehand, cuz if u tell them u need something while ur in the MRI suite, they're gonna have to find a doc to write you an order anyhow, and then find you the meds, which is always a pain in the ass for everyone involved. Good luck with this!

they gave me 2 xanax 30 mins before i went in. if it weren't for the xanax i would have never made it.

i've had cat scams. those are easy. it's just a collar that moves across you. this thing was just like a coffin. i have fears of being trapped. always have. i could feel the walls touching my shoulders. i opened my eyes half-way into the tube and the ceiling was almost touching my nose. that was when i started freakin' out. i made it 3 feet in and my whole chest tightened up. it was hard to breathe. i wasn't allowed to move. my nose itched.

so she runs me in for 20 mins. she comes on the speaker and says "1 more pass and i'll pull you out". i was so scared and anxious. so it takes 5 mins for it to do it's thing. it does it's thing, she pulls me out. just as my head starts to clear i go to jump up. she puts her hand on my chest and says "schooch up as far as you can. we have to do the second one now." i said "WHAT?" she says "your dr ordered an upper and lower. you're good for another 20 mins, right?"

back in i went.

I feel your pain...had to have one done after tearing my ACL during a football game. Didn't they put headphones on you that played music? They did for me and even let me pick the radio station. Aside from being in a confined place, I think half the battle is trying to remain as still as possible. That, for me, added extra anxiety thinking I may have to be in there longer because I moved to much and they would have to start it all over.

Also anyone with a "shunt" including devices designed for MRI use, because the risk is criticle.

ah yes, the tube of discomfort.

The best thing to do while in an MRI, is just imagine you are inside of a vibrator going in your woman.

Oddly enough after being dosed with xanax i fell asleep and woke up with an errection half way through the procedure... in a hospital gown, head first in the tube. I guess it was the mix of naughty thoughts and the vibrations.:hump:

I had one of those and yeah it was a shitty experience. First they asked me what radio station I wanted to listen to so i told them and figure ah this wont be so bad i guess. But they never turned it on and then all the fucking noises started sounding like voices and its a repeating noise, sounded like it was sayin BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD NO NO NO NO NO NO. Thats when I started to get all freaked and was getting ready to hit the button. But it was over just after that part. Felt like 3 hours in there. Probably shouldnt have gone high :blsmoke:
