Mother Plants

I am 2 weeks into flower of my first grow using SubCools super soil methods and everything is looking fantastic. I have taken clones off each plant in hopes of finding a keeper and will transplant these into 1 liter air pots when I find one that I want to keep as a mother plant.

So here's the question. To keep a mother plant indefinitely in soil, do I put a lil super soil on the bottom then top dress as needed? Or is there another method to keeping mother plants small and happy.

Thanx guys.

hey subbie....hope you are well, and happy today!

....the way to keep a mom small and happy, is to put her in a 3 gal. hard side pot, in about 20-30% supersoil, and a nice healthy basesoil....i would mix it together instead of putting it in the bottom (moms tend to get container stressed from long stints between root pruning/re-potting).......learn bondage techniques like bonzai and mainlining.......you will also want to learn about root pruning/cutting back/ and re-potting (nothing to it!)......for now, just get them in their pots, with holes drilled around the rim....cut some 6 inch lengths of coated wire, and get ready to do some bondage.....! yeah...fun!

Hi Nuglettes :)

Appreciate the feed back. I thought I heard something about root pruning which is why I thought the air pots were perfect, they root prune for you. Is this not the case? I have limited space to keep mothers and nurture baby clones so bonzai and mainlining seem like something I need to learn.

Blindbaby, I was thinking of keeping mothers for future runs. Seems like a time saver knowing you have females of great pheno's sitting in mother plants, but I'm new to this, could be wrong.

it is amazing how long a plant can veg healthy and happy in a small pot of super soil. however once the ferts run out leaves will start to die off. at that point you can either root trim and add new soil, pot up or simply take a new clone and start the process again.

i also avoid mothering for the most part just take clones of a plant that is about to go into flowering and keep the cycle going.

Mother plants are a good way to keep genetics available when you are running more strains than you can do at once. I also like mother plants because I can take the very best clone sites every time whereas when I take clones from a plant before flower, I usually take from a lower, less developed site on the plant.

Mothers are good to know how to keep. I use Mothers to keep diverse genetics around and to have super strong clone sites.

I keep my small Mom's in a 2gal fab pots in soil (ffof) under 65watt ,5000k CFL.
One Mom is about a year old and happy. I will flower the Mom soon and replace her with a new clone Mom.

Thanx for all the information on Mutha's.

I actually had another question. Those of you with experience sending samples out for testing, at what age/stage can you send samples in for testing of CBD, THC and THCv? Also, what part of the young plant do u send, seeing there are no flowers (assuming you can get accurate tests from vegging plants), do you send leaves and stems?

You must be in a medical state with a local lab or lab pick-up. No labs take samples through the mail.

And it is all about the finished buds, when your THC/CBD/THCv etc are maxed out... whenever that may be for your process.

Usually once the buds are cured but not waiting too long for degredation. I like to test a week or two post chop.
