Mother Plant

I never had a mother plant before, currently on my 1st grow, i think im gonna keep my strongest female as a mother plant... I had a few queries though.

1. Can I take cuttings from a Flowering plant? If not how do i select a plant as mother plant? Flower till it shows sex and start vegging again?

2. How long can i Keep the Mother plant?... Is a Big-ass Container (Say, 5 gal) enough for the plant?.. I want the plant to be a bonsai Mother thinggi..So, height wont be an issue , imo.


I plan to make a Small cabinet, just for ONE mother plant, with 3 X 23 watt daylight CFLs. How does this sound?

1) Leave your mother in Vegging state NEVER put it in Flowering.
2) I know of a guy who has had a Mother Plant growing for 2 years nows.. You can keep a mother plant growing as long as you dont put her in Flowering.
3) If your gonna use CFL's I would go with more than 150Watts to keep her growing good and healthy Maybe 4, 42 watters..

I have space for 3 bulbs only, so, imo im going for 3 42 watters... if thats enough

I would say so.. I keep anything and everything over 150 watts on CFL's

i want to have a mother too but dont you need to flower it to make sure its a girl before you proclaim her the mother? i have no access to clones.

Mothers are much happier if they dont reach flower, but its ok to take cuttings from a flowering plant. They just take longer. To grow a mom you have to wait out the sexing game. Grow it untill it shows sex. I lst and supercrop the whole time to make nice branchs. You will want more light than some cfls. Check my journal and vids, they will show you a lot about mothers. These were kept as small as possible. So your bonsai mother thing isnt going to work out. I wish my self

Plants dont need to be flowering to show sex. They need to be sexually mature. I never would risk flowering unsex'd plants. Ever.

when i am looking for a new mother i just star like 5 plants from seed lable them take clones lable them than flower the plants from seed and theow away any males clone and plant good luck, save the female you like the best
