MOTHER PLANT - Quick Question

:finger: The only reason I ask this is because I don't see many folks doing this and I'm not sure why.

:leaf: Q: Can I grow a few plants from seed, take cuttings during veg, then put the cuttings into 12/12 to determine the sex of the Mother plant?

:leaf: i.e. Do I need to sex/differentiate a Mother plant before it creates all female clones?

:leaf: i.e. Can a never-before-flowered, only vegetative growth, cannabis plant create all female cuttings if that seed/plant is female?

:wall: Sorry if this is a dumb question but you saved me 2 weeks of flowering and 3-4 weeks of revegging if this is true.

 P.S. - Just got my Nirvana Seeds; took 10 days from order; they look good but some of them definitely look a bit immature (pale); I'm fucking amped to add some new strains to my grow room. Bubblicious. Blue Mystic. White Rhino. Oh! I also got my medical card today!! I've been an MMP for 4 months but have never actually gone in for my photograph/MMP Card. Big nugs on the horizon. Maybe it's time to finally make a Journal for you folks :)

You can sex that way, and no reason to ever put a plant into flower for it to become a "mother" plant.

I wouldn't make a bunch of clones until it was properly sexed (take a cutting and put it in 12-12)

That's what I'm talking about! I feel like people get caught up in the "normal coolkid" ways to grow but some "shortcuts" are just smart. No more revegging; I don't enjoy it!

Not dumb at all! And yes! many people do take cuttings and put one 12/12 as soon as it is rooted to determine the sex of the Donor plant... The other option is to take clones in flower as soon as they sex, and keep one of the clones as the "Mom"...

Ok- this part of your Question is confusing...
You WANT all female clones-- and the sex of the clone is exactly the same as the plant you cut it off of... therefore- if you take cuttings and put one 12/12 it will show either male or female-- and that is what the donor plant is-- so keep the girls- dump the boys... no way to know in Veg until they are sexed-- either by cuttings, putting them 12/12 and cloning after they sex, OR taking clones and put the donors in 12/12 while the clones are rooting and keep all the Females-- using one of the female clones as your new "Mom" plant....

Not a dumb question!!! And yeah, re-vegging is stressful on the plants, however- keeping a clone as a Mom is often better than keeping a seed plant as the mom, since clones tend to be stronger plants... so IMO-- take clones and as soon as you are certain they are going to survive- put the original plants 12/12 to flower out.

Make sure you mark all the clones REAL WELL so you know which donor they came from! This ALSO gives you a leg-up time-wise on your next grow- since you will have clones already vegging while the Mom's flower out! ;)

Sorry about the confusing part; I'm pretty stoned and just bought some So.Co haha

Okay, this I will need to look into further. My current mother plant is from bagseed (and was been revegged). She has delivered a 100% success rate on 20+ and has great growth. However; I've also got a clone from a different strain (2008 bagseed I've saved) and I have plans to make the clone a mother plant. It should be really interesting to see which one delivers stronger clones; the bagseed mother vs. the clone mother. Damn... maybe it is journal time haha. Thanks for the information!

once a seed plant is mature/ big enough to spare a few shoots for cuttings it is virtually big enough to show preflowers
at around week 4-5 from seed, you are able to remove male plants, and take cuttings from the remaining plants, as the remaining female* seed plants mature in the flowering area, if any of those
were to show traits (hemi)that are not the same as the preflowers, i have never seen this happen, then you can just discard those cuttings
this is the quickest way to get cuttings from your seed plants, the only down side is you will end up with big seed plants on the first run, as you will need to give them 4-5 weeks of veg to show preflowers
some folk like to flower sooner with less veg time and keep the plants under 4ft lol although you can always top or bend them etc

peace

How can you compare the bagseed mother to the clone mother when they are different strains? Some strains clone easier than others.
