mold on buds

Please don't flame me to much I am beyond a newbie, and I know this.

I very early harvested my first grow recently. I know, big mistake, I have reasons. I grew some bag seed that I know for a fact was Mexi crap. I had one good thing happen though. I planted 4 seeds, 3 died before even 2 in tall and the one to live was a girl. Yeah! I made EVERY mistake that could have been made so far. I pulled her out into the light during dark time and hermied her. I over watered so much it took almost 4 weeks to dry her out, etc. I considered this a test plant, period. Just to see if I could do it at all. I actually have about oz and half wet off it. Studying up on mold and realize that some of the buds do in fact have mold. Only seen with a mag but it's still there. Do I have to toss the lot of it? It's not completely dry yet. Can I just pull the moldy one's out? I'm sorry if this is a dumb question. I've seen so many awesome buds on this site I feel like a complete idiot even telling anyone about my first grow, but how else do we learn right? Please Advise. Be gentle...Sadness.

Cut away all the mould very gently - remove more than you think you should as there will be spores in the areas immediately surrounding the mould that you cannot see. Move it to a new area (away from where it got the mould) to continue drying, keeping a vigilant look out for further mould. Be prepared to loose it all, be pleasantly surprised if you manage to save some.

And try and work out what went wrong so you don't end up sad next time. :peace:

Either remove the mold as mentioned above, or water cure the bud.

Do some searching(in the harvest and curing section) if you're interested in water-curing, it will remove the mold.

If you have already come to the point where it sits between cutting away half your grow or tossing the lot then I would advise you to go nowhere near water curing. Not only will water curing leave you with only 2\3 of what you start out with but its a more of an art than a science and you anyone trying it for the first time is almost guaranteed to screw it up (no offense to you but I'm talking from experience, and not just my own). If you can pull it off it will leave you with potent bud that is super smooth to smoke but, you know...

What did you find difficult about water-curing? I think it's the easiest, most full-proof way to cure buds. You just submerge in water, leave the top open, change the water daily for seven days, dry and voila!! There is no checking humidity, or wondering when it's time to put into a jar, or how much to dry, or when they are ready, it's virtually mechanical.

Ya it's going to be different than air-cure, but I figure the OP could read about it and decide if that's what they might want.

I just went through and checked all the buds and more than half have some spores. Only a couple have very small spots visible without a mag. Why bother, most will ask? I feel like it's pride. I don't want to say I totally destroyed my first attempt ya know. How will water curing "remove" the mold? I'll research that right now. Thanks for the advice. Maybe I can grow for real now with all my knowledge and get something good out of it. Wish me luck.

I have NEVER heard of this, soaking your buds? But I will def try a nug in a few weeks with this method because curiosity is killing me . Seems odd, but I've seen stranger things.
Thanks for the link.

Maybe force drying in microwave would kill mold. Put in freezer for some time = mold dead. Put it in microwave for a minute = spores dead. Just a guess :)

Read it, we'll see.. I'll try a few nugs. If it works, killer. I will gladly respond and give you props. Interesting, none the less.

So some say it works for mold and some say absolutely not. Hummm...maybe water curing and then make hash. Anyone one think that might be worth a try?

I have done this quite a few times, and have never had a problem. Just my opinion but it is virtually fool-proof. It's part of my regular routine now when I harvest..... those little nugs at the bottom that are a PITA to hang up cause they're so small, I just throw them all in a jar of water, and seven days later, I drop them on my little drying rack and they're good to go.

Every grower should at least check it out. I still prefer the characteristics of air-cure though, but I like to have some water-cure on hand.

Here are some pics.

No offense but some of your stuff in the jars still look wet.
LOL... that's because there is water in there. That was back when I would usually leave a lid on. Some say that you MUST leave the lid off so the chlorophyl will evaporate, I've done it both ways and I don't see a difference. And that water stinks. IMO you're going to dump it out the next day anyway so it probably doesn't matter.

Those pics are a daily progression of how the water changes colors as the cure happens. I didn't post them in order, but hover over them to see what day they are on. You can see early, the water is nasty looking, like dark tea as all the sugars and chlorophyl leaves the buds. Then as each day progresses, you see the water getting clearer. The water is pretty clear by day4, by the end the water is crystal clear.
