molasses, flushing and the final stages

hey folks,

i've been trying to research this and have found a couple threads but nothing that seems to be definite. i am just about to complete week 7 of my greenhouse hawaain snow. i've read that using molasses in the last four weeks will really boost the bud growth. i understand 2 tablespoons per gallon of water is about right one a week but my question is, when i start flushing with water alone in the last two weeks, do i stop using the molasses?

finally, the seed's guidelines says 11 weeks for flowering but i'm already getting brown hairs (about 20%). is this normal with four weeks to go? waiting on a magnifier but wondered if i needed to be thinking about flushing a bit earlier than planned?

cheers

Do not use molasses unless you are runnig a hydro set up. FLushing should be the final two weeks (also exclusively hydro). I recommend flushing w molasses the last two weeks. Any more molasses than that is overkill. Again, all of this is in a hydro set up. This is not applicable to soil set ups.

I couldnt disagree more....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You are more than welcome to use molasses in soil. regardless of if you hand water or run it through a system....

Make a cup of tea and with the extra hot water make a cup of molasses tea.... simply pour the hot water over the measured amount of blackstrap.

then add that to your water tank or whatever you use. This will break it down enough to be applied....

And yes you can continue to use the BS or any other carbohydrate/sugar etc up till the last week or more.... Adding something like "Sweet" will only increase the amount of trichromes... what a shame..lol...

However adding Clearex to your flushing process will help to break down all the salts for removal..... do this for at least the last few days then just water...

Hope that helps.

yeah I don't have experience doing either but I researched molasses methods and every one has said that using molasses in hydro will clog the airstones and it'd be a mess. It's typically used for soil

dont worry bout it to much.. but yea its deffinetly not recomended for hydro, however in ur case id use it with ur normal nutes for a couple weeks or longer if u like the results. some people use mollasses alot more than 2 weeks i believe ive read people who even use in veg for the mirco nutes. but use it till u feel u are almost ready to harvest and then i think its better to just flush with Pure PH water u wanna get everything outta plant, all nutes. So its a smoother smoke.. And the leaves should be more yellow and lighter green, as apposed to dark green or it wasnt flushed good enough. good luck bro!!

Huh...... dude are you crazy. That is terrible advice and it doesn't sound as though you really know what you are talking about. Mollasses is great for soil plants in there flowering stage even while flushing out. And you never use mollasses for hydo hahahah worst advice I have read since being on this forum. Really grinds my gears reading this type of Tom Foolery.

Very well put.. love the last sentence, was hard to read while i was high coulndt stop laughing... hahaha anyways bro do u flush with the mollasses as well? i havent been to sure on this myself and ive flushed recently with just water but used my flower nutes and mollasses for final stages but wasnt sure if the mollasses add would defeat the poupose of a flush.. thanks for any advice peace out bro.. & thanks for the good laugh lol

why would you even use molasses when you can go to your local hydro store and pick up something that is broken down specifically for the plants benifit, unlike mollasses which isnt. I know of plenty of people who use mollasses and every time you cannot tell the difference. good luck. cheers.

hey people,

ta for the all the responses, i too was loving the 'grind my gears' line, what a lyric. to the most recent post, living in the english countryside means that there aren't exactly hydro shops all over the place hence my enquiry into this method. anyway, all i could find in my local shop was 'Billington's natural molasses sugar - refined sugar cane'. is this the right stuff? its in granual form so i assume i can dissolve in hot water and add to my water/nute solution once cooled? i will thn use all the way up to harvest.

i am growing in soil btw so was defo suprised at the first reply about it only being good in hydro set-ups!

lastly, my mini microscope arrived today but unlike i was expecting (dunno why) i need to remove a sample and lay it flat to get the thing to focus. as i dont want to be pulling bits off too regularly, and bearing in mind i think i have four weeks to go, how often should i check this?

safe as

T.

About a month ago I was reading all the conflicting stories on using molasses in hydro. I use DWC tubs. I figured fuck it I'll give it a shot and see what happens. I had heard to use a tablespoon of molasses (5 mL) per gallon. There's 7 gallons total in my tubs so I dissolved 7 tbsp of molasses in a gallon of boiling RO water to dissolve it, then added that to 6 gallons of cold water so that way in each tub I had 7 gallons of water/nutrients with a total of 35 mL of dissolved molasses in each tub. I'll tell you what happened...

MOLASSES FUCKED EVERYTHING UP IN MY HYDRO SETUP!

There was this film that began to cover everything. It covered my large airstones and kept them from aerating the solution properly. But worst of all, it made a film on the entire root mass and after about 24 hours half of my plants were wilting so badly I just about cried. I had to emergency-flush everything out, rinse off the roots, clean the airstones, and fed them straight water for about 5 days. The plants that hadn't wilted suffered stunted growth and blooming for about a week. The plants I thought that were wilted past the point of no return dropped about half of their leaves within the next few days. Remarkably, within about 7-10 days, the plants had a lot of new growth and foliage and made pretty close to a full recovery. Yield seems to be lower on these plants (they're still finishing), but they survived and will hopefully still produce a good amount of high-quality bud. But if anyone on here asks me what the single biggest mistake was that I made on this grow, without a doubt, it was the fact that I used molasses in my DWC tubs. Earl had warned me about it and I didn't listen, I would say if there's something that is a big unknown, send him a message and go with what he says. Hopefully you won't have to learn the hard way like I did, there were many sleepless nights where I was beating myself up over it.

yes molasses is good for plants grown in soil
2 tablespoons per gallon of water
make sure if its tape water you let it sit in an open container for atleast 24 hours to let the chlorine evaporate. then add the molasses

only use unsulphered molasses
this means it hasnt had the sulphur removed from it(like... inflamable means flamable?)
