I'm mixing my charge pack with 707 as base today. I was just wondering what is meant when they say activate after mixing. Does it mean add water? I was under the impression just mix pack with base and place in container let sit minimum 30 days.

yes, add water.... it really depends on your location and the time of year for the "perfect" ammoun of water. But I generally just go w/ just over a gallon w/ some Oregonism XL mixed in.

Water or a compost tea will do you some good too... So does the oregonism xl.....

An easy compost tea per gal of water: with a $2 airstone and $15 aquarium air pump and hose (the more the better, but theres a limit...to much agitation is bad and makes it harder for micro-beasties to reproduce); and if you wanna go big, get an aquarium heater and set it to 68 degrees (I bring even my plain water to this temp as well):
1/2 cup worm castings
1 TBS of unsulphered molasses
mix for 24-36 hours....

If you wanna add some extra things if you have on hand all per gal...
I'll throw a cup of supersoil concentrate in a 5 gallon batch of tea, for 1 gallon a 1/4cup should be fine...
1 TBS of alfalfa meal
1/2 TBS of kelp meal
1/8th to 1/4 cup of general organics ancient forest

The list really is endless... however NPK #'s are best kept around 5 or below, theres quite a few exceptions to this rule but you should be very careful using supersoil and teas but its awesome to use instead of plain water... BUT.... water will work fine too....

Thanks GasMoney & Mike. Just going to mix and place in containers no water added

you want it to be damp throughout the mix....pretty simple....all bagged soils come with varying degrees of moisture......mix it up, if it seems too dry to the touch add some water, if it seems wet, don't...but Geek is right, if it is dry, it won't do a fucking thing, and you will fuck up your whole grow.....use common sense......dry= biological dormancy, damp ideal, wet=death by suffocation (anaerobic)

mixed up my mix and added about 1-2 gal too each 32 gal container. It is a must to activate the micro organism properties of the soil.

exactly what nugs said, any soil i've ever bought is pretty moist. Even after i mixed mine it was still very moist and with knowledge of mycology and how mycelium develops too much moisture is not good. after you mix it wait a day or two and see how much condensation is on the lid of your cans. if none then id add water, its easier just to add then it is to let it dry a bit especially after there's a shit ton in cans. also it mentions nothing on tgasupersoil.com about adding water and like subcool said about a hundred times dioxide did his homework with down to earth and they know what they're talking about. its a different recipe with different ratios. they also say that you need to only cook it for 30 days instead of 8 wks like subs. are the fertilizers more soluble in the new charge pack? only tgasupersoil.com can answer that. and just because you have geek in your name doesnt mean you know everything, try harder next time to not come off as a pompous know it all.i had fuzz in 2 days bro and didn't add any extra "mycos" or anything.

well, sir... its not being pompous if you are correcting people. You said that the charge pack doesn't require water, that is incorrect.

If you are buying wet soil, that's your problem, the soil that you purchase should be somewhat moist (but far from damp) and water should be a NEEDED addition to your soil mix.

As for having Geek in my name, no it doesn't.... but don't bash me when you are still wrong.

I'm not going to argue w/ you... have you actually mixed a charge pack there "TheGasMonkey" or are you just spewing BS like many others that don't even know how to grow? Check out my thread if you haven't seen them in action.

*edit*

Sorry. I see that you have mixed it... good. I am glad you are on the right path, and yes... you may have a web, but for most people (esp. this time of year) need to add water to their mix because by the time it cures for a while it will have moisture loss (or absorption of the added nutrients) buying overly wet soil is never a good thing.

Even if your soil is somewhat wet out of the bag, it should be pretty dry by the end of mixing it up. The added amendments suck up a lot of moisture. after I mixed mine the final material wad pretty dry and needed help with activation

just thought id share that i received an email from joel@ TGASUPERSOIL.COM and you absolutely DO NOT need to add water to the mix. this is from TGASUPERSOIL.COM

The gas monkey: you're wrong man. Listen, geek mike is good friends with sub, aka TGA head breeder and owner, aka the guy that has given us this recipe. The soil has to be watered to be activated. Period. I've spent a lot of time on these forums trying to sift through the bullshit, and people like you do NOT help by posting MISinformation.

you asked a question, it was answered.

Dude, like I said it's moisture rates... and it sounds like the soil you get is pretty wet already.

By telling people everywhere (especially this time of year) that it's cool to just throw dry soil and powdered nutrients in a can and it will work is BS. You are only giving recommendations on the 1st step on ruining your crop.

Keep on keepin on there newb, anyone that knows 2 shits will put a bit of water in there.

I used the charge pack this round.. my mix was NOT wet enough so I put about one gallon of water per fifty gallons of soil. I had my trash cans teaming with visible microbes in four days...

some people just don't get it. All dry soil fertilizers/amendments need to be activated with water in order to work properly because some fertilizers/amendments are not ready for plant uptake right away this is why any soil mixed with dry amendments must be activated with water prior to use or your plants will not benefit from them right away. Some fertilizers/amendments take weeks or months before they're available to the plants this is why we cook our soil so all the amendments can level out and be available for plant uptake
