Mix and Match Crop

My seedlings are doing well and growing at a decent rate, though unfortunately still to young for me to figure out if they're male or female. Just yesterday I moved them a little closer to the T5 and in a few days we'll see what that does.

My cuts on the other hand are still a little sad. They should have rooted by now but I don't have any little white rootlets poking out of the jiffy pod and I only have three left. I just can't figure out what I'm not doing right here - I keep the humidity dome on where it stays with a temp of no less than 70F and no greater than 87F, though normally stays between 77F and 83F with little help, and humidity of at least 60%
I keep them watered but not drowning.... Maybe having that heat mat on for the first four days was really REALLY not a good idea. We'll see how they look in a little bit, and maybe I'll put them in some red solo cups and move them in with the seedlings, but in a few more days I might take more cuttings so I can try again, sans the heating mat, and maybe the third time's the charm.

Hi there,

Sorry that you are having problems with your cuttings.....
But don't give up on them yet, they could still root!
You probably do this but the way I take cutting is I wait until they are a good size and looking healthy (as if it could support its self) and cut off more than I am going to try root, when I have it off I cut at a 45 degree angle to a leaf set and cut the leafs off, (another rooting area)then dip in rooting power, put them in jiffy pellets and under the dome then under Cfls or in the tent lower than the plants ......

It seams to work for me, usually takes about two and a half weeks to see growth signs....
But you are probably doing this anyway :)

I made sure each cut had at least 4 nodes, 1 of which I buried, and I made my final cut on the stem at 45 degrees with most of the leaves trimmed down. I used Clonex brand rooting gel and made sure to dip the stem a good inch or so before poking them right into the jiffy pellets.
So yea, I pretty much did exactly that you posted.... -sigh- I don't know what I'm doing wrong. How is it that I can grow from seed with no problems but I try to clone and the best I get is sad cuttings?
I took a tip and put the cover back on the light to reduce the intensity of the light and the heating mat has been turned off... I think I want to take a few more and try again, just without the heating mat and with the less intense light.

That sounds like a good plan, I'd try that as well :)

Ok so a few things have changed over the holiday.
I attempted cloning a few more times with about the same rate of success, only managing to make them last a bit longer each time before dying so I suppose that's a skill I don't need to possess just yet. Though I did make a wonderful couple of friends over at a new dispensary that opened up right by my house, sharing grow tips and even little bits of supplies. They gave my Skywalker OG a home and have cloned it for me, letting it grow a bit under their Metal Halide before we put it in a 15 gal cloth pot and stash it in it's own flowering tent- all supplies for this being provided by the fabulous guys down at Dr GreenThumbs. Needless to say, the bud should be amazing.
They also tossed a 400w MH bulb my way since my ballast works for both HPS and MH so the Bubba Kush is loving the shit out of that for a week or so before I throw her into flower. I was going to have her in flower already but my beau wanted to let her grow under the MH for a while so she's STILL in veg. This may be the longest grow I've ever been apart of.
I also stripped an entertainment center and layered the inside with panda paper after building a door, getting myself a neat contained grow center with 3 different compartments, the larger one big enough for an old box tv so I should be able to fit 2 or 3 plants in there for vegging no problem. Hung a T5 and my leftover T8 in one of the compartments and moved those Rockafeller Kush seedlings in there, though they're getting almost to big for me to consider them seedlings much longer. I want to line the large box compartment with T5's for vegging but my new friends at the store are giving us a nice little 175w MH light with the built-in ballast for fifty bucks- though that would only leave me with a little under 2ft in growing space height, including space for the pot so I'm not sure. I'll probably take it until I can afford to start getting all those T5's I want, and maybe I'll be able to get a few LED spot grow lights since it's such a small space, we'll see.

Anyways, pictures soon to follow (my phone is just dead right now) I just wanted to make an appearance after taking the last few weeks off from the site. Hope everyone enjoyed their holiday.

Here are those pictures I promised yesterday but was too lazy to put up! :)

The Bubba Kush in all her beautiful glory just about to FINALLY go into flower, though I know I've been saying that for a while now but you learn to compromise when you have a partner in crime I suppose. She's loving the metal halide, has new growth just everywhere. What a sexy beast.

Then of course my wondrous clutch of seedlings that aren't really seedlings anymore, getting bigger and bigger everyday. Sorry about the lines in the close-up, my camera doesn't like the mh light very much. I've been topping and trying to see how to do it right, finding my own way and all that. I will admit to taking a close-up of my favorite....

Well I certainly have dropped the ball when it comes to keeping up on this journal now haven't I? Sorry all, school and work really have taken over. But never fret! While I haven't been able to do much in the way of computer fun, I have still been keeping a close eye on my grow. Here are some pictures I just ran into the spare room to take just for this post!

Here are some unknown bag seeds that I popped a while back and are doing well, as well as a Skywalker clone that has so far been the only clone I've ever taken that survived and actually rooted. Still working on that.

Here is what has become of all those Rockafeller Kush plants, significantly larger and just fabulous. I've been training them and topping them with my fiance doing his best to make one of them grow into an orb shape- but I'm not holding my breath cause I don't know if the plant would like holding that shape. There's an Orange Blossom hidden in there too that I'm hoping to soon seed with Northern Lights.

And last but not least, my beautiful Bubba Kush has just been moved under a 600w HPS in the last few days and is loving it. On a very sad note the flowering Skywalker OG we had going over at the collective got such a bad case of Whiteflies that they actually started burrowing into the plant and hollowed out a few branches... plus all those bugs constantly trying to infect the rest of the plants in the garden... so we had to scrap it. I tried to wait out the rest of flower but there was just too many flies for the end product to be worth all the trouble since the poor girl had even stopped producing.
But my home garden is still clean as a whistle so hopefully we can avoid that problem over here.

Here are some fabulous pictures of my Bubba Kush just a few days away from harvest time. Starting the day after tomorrow she gets no more water and then the day after that she'll go into dark for a few days before getting chopped down and her buds hung to dry in the grow room closet.

Isn't she huge? I know I could have done better, and in my next grow I will, but this is definitely our best so far.
Here are some close-up shots of the buds.

On a fun side note I have those Rockafellers going into flower with a male stashed away in the sneaky grow ottoman under some CFLs so I can start to generation the strain as well as a new strain- Lavender. One of my favorites that I wasn't expecting to find so I'm excited for that. Soon, someday soon.
