i have the mg thats says 24-8-15 and it says to use a quarter tsp per 2 litres every 7-14 days but i am watering 3 plants and between them they only take about 3 litres of water every 4 days. Should i be adding some everytime i water or will this be to much? should i try it out or could i kill the plants i am using soil nd the soil was just generic potting soil with no nutrients in it the plants are over a month old and i just wanna get the most out of them i can any info would be great thanks:)

sure i can help ya out , buddy :D , do you have any cal/mag ? because mg fertilizer usually miss out the cal/mag...or did you add the lime to the pre mix soil ? of course 1 tsp is very good to watering, you have to read the plant s needs..depend on what strain you re growing...it can feed everytime at same one tsp...if the strain is heavy...can increase dose a bit....slowly , use your judgment, buddy.

happy growing and peace.

okay, you can always buy cal/mag at the hydro store , if you dont have one in your area, try to look up for espoma s garden lime that sells at the homedepot, sprinkle as top dressing, but i wont do that, so your plant looks good right now ? then dont mess it up till you see the defs, go ahead to use that lime. if you do have hydro store in your local, not hurt to add cal/mag to the mg fertilizer mix :D

I find the easiest way to know how to correctly dose your plants is to get a PPM meter...I got one for $10 off ebay...works great...You eventually figure out what your plant wants for nutrients based on the soil you use(all soils are different in how much nutrients are available in it)...In general I start out giving veg nutes about a month or so in at about 400-500ppm every other watering...once I get into flower I start hitting it with about 1000ppm of flowering nutes(higher P/K lower N) almost every watering...I've yet to ever burn my plants or have to flush to correct the medium :)

okay so here is a catchup of the last 24 hrs i went and out the little one in to flower need to get me some bud asap lol i left the other 2 to veg more get them bigger to make clones off of. the little one seemed to be in a stand still so figured i would flower it sex see if its even worth trying to fix like new pot better lights. i am going to get a hood that holds 4 t-8 fluoros so i can add more light use cfls for additional along the sides. i checked they needed water last night so i fertilized again and today no signs of burn on the leaves yet i will probably just add water next shot and then do 2 ferts if they dont burn and i will keep you posted. if you see anything i am doing wrong or if you think that i am an idiot feel free to let me know thanks

The price seems to have gone up on this model to about $15-$16:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/HM-Digital-TDS-EZ-PPM-Tester-Water-Purity-Testing-Meter-/230414178761?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item35a5c159c9#ht_705wt_1397

Been a couple years since I bought it...works great :D
oh yeah its still not bad for that price :D im more toward to the combined like ph, tds, ppm in one meter that sell for about 180 dollars...i think its worth to invest...so i can start to run the hydro in about 6 months, after the outdoor season is over.

M.G. is a poor choice as a fertilizer for pot.....it's LOADED with heavy metals, directly from Scotts using poor initial ingredients. Buy a good hydroponic fertilizer to be sure it's a "complete" fertilizer!

I use the Botanicare line of nutes............ it's very good, and very easy if you follow the directions properly. It's not the cheapest out there, but I get great results every time.

ahh i do have the boranicare. they re decent to use too....the best fertilizer that i ran is Dyna-Gro line...its very simple to mix and its super conceration like 2.5 ml per gallon, i consider DG is a complete fertilizer ! IMHO its best fertilizer for cannabis. Ihighly recommend this dyna gro for you to run this line :D

.it's LOADED with heavy metals
Could you be a bit more specific.

Botanicare Grow is 3-1-2

MG is 24-8-16.....or 3-1-2...hmmmmm

Botanicare Grow has

  • Total Nitrogen (N): 3.0%
  • Total Nitrogen (N): 3.0% Water Soluble Nitrogen
  • Available Phosphate (P2O5): 2.0%
  • Soluble Potash (K2O): 4.0%
  • Calcium (Ca): 1.0%
  • Magnesium (Mg): 0.5%
  • Magnesium (Mg): 0.5% Water Soluble Magnesium (Mg)
MG has

Nitrogen (N) - 24% (3.5% Ammoninacal N, 20.5% Urea N)
Available Phosphate (P) (P2O5) - 8%
Soluble Potash (K) (K2O) - 16%
Boron (B) - .02%
Copper (Cu) - .07%
Iron (Fe) - .15%
Manganese (Mn) - .05%
Molybdenum (Mo) - .0005%
Zinc (Zn) - .06%

so BC has Cal Mag ( I don't need extra calcium and Magnesium is easily subbed w/ epsom salt, along w/ sulphur)
and MG has necessary trace elements

MG is a small percent of the cost of Botanicare

I don't have years of experience, but it seems a clear choice

BTW, I dilute 24-8-16 down to 6-2-4 and use it for every watering. I started out diluted to 3-1-2, but increased it w/ no adverse results......your mileage may vary

Actually, I went back and tried to find the article and I stand corrected- it was Peter's Fertilizer that had the really high metals count. MG seems to be pretty good in that category. But I do have years of commercial crop production (pot and organic veggies) and Botanicare is way better and here's why without the scientific jargen: fertilizer is basically salts. MG uses cheaper basic ingredients. Botanicare's basic ingredients are of a higher quality. What this means, generally, is that MG will tend to build up in your medium more easily (and drive your pH down) and need a thorough flushing occasionally to rinse out the salt build up. In the 3-4 years of using Botanicare, I have never had to flush my medium- ever.
