miracle-gro? why not?

Urea found in miracle grow is technically both organic, and synthetic.

from wikipedia:

"Urea or carbamide is an organic compound with the chemical formula CO(NH2)2."

"For use in industry, urea is produced from synthetic ammonia and carbon dioxide. As large quantities of carbon dioxide are produced during the ammonia manufacturing process as a byproduct from hydrocarbons"

Can i ask why the same element can be organic and inorganic, what makes a metal organic basically? Thanks

Plants only uptake ions.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mineral_uptake

"
In plants, mineral uptake is the process in which minerals enter the cellular material, typically following the same pathway as water. The most normal entrance portal for mineral uptake is through plant roots.(Roots, 2005) Some mineral ions diffuse in-between the cells. In contrast to water, some minerals are actively taken up by plant cells. Mineral nutrient concentration in roots may be 10,000 times more than in surrounding soil. During transport throughout a plant, minerals can exit xylem and enter cells that require them. Mineral ions cross plasma membranes by a chemiosmotic mechanism. Plants absorb minerals in ionic form: nitrate (NO3−), phosphate (HPO4−) and potassium ions (K+); all have difficulty crossing a charged plasma membrane.

It has long been known plants expend energy to actively take up and concentrate mineral ions. Proton pump hydrolyzes ATP to transport H+ ions out of cell; this sets up an electrochemical gradient that causes positive ions to flow into cells. Negative ions are carried across the plasma membrane in conjunction with H+ ions as H+ ions diffuse down their concentration gradient."

I know plants uptake ions and diffusion atp pumps etc but i fail to see what the difference is between say organic calcium and inorganic calcium, or iron or zinc?

Oh, then we're on the same page then.

There is no difference. Calcium ions are always taken up as Ca++ no matter what. Nobody feeds with an organic form of calcium anyway. Limestone, bone meal, and egg shells are all inorganic materials, and that's generally what the organic users use. (I think it's crab shells these days? pfft.. i'll only use lobster shells.....)

Ok i think i get it with the ions still being the same just held in a different way.

I use, and have used, MG for decades. Like since the 70's.
I met a guy in the 70s and eventually he turned me on to growing. Told me to dig hole in the ground back filled with topsoil amended with cow shit?

I did. '92ish. Had no idea about cow manure. Went to a pasture. Stole some cow shit. Threw it in the hole. Poured dirt on that. Planted a vegging 1 footer in May. Forgot where I planted it. Never saw it again. Can't comment on end results but initial results proved there were better ways.

MG no good..... Even with molasses and kelp the taste and smell isn't top quality at all.(IMO). I like my water brown not blue.

That is what I was after.....

Elaborate on flavors and odors.
During flower, drying, curing.

Is there a measurable difference throughout those stages between MG vs. The markets common organics?

Lots of different opinions on nutrient choices.
Miracle-gro is super cheap and available everywhere.

But why not use it?

Ever done a comparison?

Any folks content with MG?

At this point I've used MG for 5 grows, seen results that don't make me upset, but perhaps that is ignorance.

What are your thoughts?
i been useing MG for past 5 years and had great results..does the plant really know if u are buying some costly shit named whatever or MG..no all it knows is its getting NPK..i get results like this with it and its cheap so i will contiune to use it till it screws me up005.JPG

MG is a great product nutrient...for growing tomatoes. Read the label, as many of us have already been there. Peace

Well I've grown with super soil, OLS, compost, and Miracle Grow...It all works just fine for whatever you want to grow, although I use mainly composted OLS/ROLS for my veggie garden...shit here's some super soil shots....
I can see a problem here. Those buds look like they are about to snap the stems. Another reason to avoid any MG product.

i have mine tied that way so more light can penertrate into the middle..as i said untill something happens that fk my plants up im not gonna avoid MG..not saying they are not better stuff out there only shareing my exp and for the price it does me well..i sent my super lemon haze off for lab test last year and it was 18.2% thc so thats pretty damn good for a guerilla grower and mircle grow nutes imo

im outdoor guerilla grower only so it may be alot differnt useing MG indoors which i have zero exp or know how to grow indoors..i dream of the day i can grow in a greenhouse in my yard

THE PLANT KNOWS!!! Sure, she doesn't say anything, but when you're not in the room, she cries herself to sleep every night, because you, you cheap bastard, won't buy her the "good stuff" she deserves.

Nothing wrong with miracle grow, just use as directed. I've grown a lot of weed with it back in the day...
