Hey! an indoor grower thinking about going outside. Any outdoor Minnesota growers here? and if so when do you usually put your plants in the ground?

Im in MN, this is my first year growing. i plan on starting sprouts inside around march or april to give a headstart. then transplant them outdoors depending on the weather. probably mid to late may. ive also been looking for other growers in MN that have extra seeds or clones that i could buy so i dont have to buy seeds off the web.

i know a little south of MN the outdoor planting date is around May 20. for MN, i'd say Memorial day at the earliest, probably early June to be safe.

why grow outdoors in MN? way to f'n cold up there.

i grow outdoors in Minnesota because I am a Minnesotan. A northern Minnesotan. and frankly i haven't had any problems. over the last 10 years the first time we get 3 or more nights in a row below freezing is the period between Oct 21 and November 2. so, if you do autos or strains that flower in less than 9 weeks it's like growing anywhere else. also i started some late (july) in pots just to test some things out. they are about a foot and a half tall and have started flowering. i built a greenhouse that blends with the terrain to protect them from the frost they will have to endure to finish flowering. growing here just requires understanding the state, understanding the plant and, if necessary, a little innovation. summer indoor growing in MN is for city boys...use the time we have to get some fresh air and grow where the plant is meant to grow. Yup, I'm in MN too. Safe planting date is may 15th but I've gotten away with as early as april 15th. I've been checkin around the web on first frost dates and foun my area to be anywhere from sept 22 to october 6 but I think I've made it later like Hold was sayin but I'm not to keen on keepin records.

Hey, i live in Ontario, which isn't too different from Minnesota, and typically we plant on May 24th.
However, if you can plant inside, you can do it a bit earlier, your plants will stretch a bit, as mine did.
However you will have slightly larger plants, but May 24 you can plant directly in the ground (this is 16 days after my last recorded frost)

Too much damn rain, only got one out of four double gums from white label to pop then it drowned. I'll have to baby the rest in paper towels, damn indoor strains. All my outdoors popped in the ground and thats the way to do it, they always out perform transplantees that way.
