Speaking of fake news, does anyone know why you can't thaw a turkey at room temperature?
1-800-BUTTERBALL hotline now open.

hint: cause the outside will go bad before the insides thaw out. throw it in a huge pot with some fresh herbs and some salt water and let it brine for a few days while it thaws in the fridge

Refrigerator is needed for other stuff for the meal. I use an ice chest for a big bird..

I give ice chest a good hard scrub and sanitize it with bleach and a final rinse. Monday, the turkey went into cold brined apple juice and along with 2 qt milk jugs filled with frozen water. I change out the jugs when down to a few chunks of ice. I like to use bundles of oregano and thyme in the brine.

Edit: The low cost supermarket birds are pre-brined with sodium phosphate solution. You probably don't want to brine them.

We did that one year, loads of garlic and Jameson too, some of the best turkey I've had.
Less pan drippings means less gravy though, maybe I'm just old fashioned, I'll be doing an herbed butter to baste mine this year. I've also had it deep fried, it was pretty good too.

thats what our 2nd fridge is for (and beer). i've got a huge pot that i used to brew beer in and can easily fit a 20 pounder.

i try to find a poultry herb mix: thyme, rosemary, and one more i'm forgetting.

so do you use salt for the brine or just the sweet of the apple juice? that might be something i try.
