Microgreens

I've found the biggest expense would be the endless amount of seed you use. I use 1 - 1.5 cups of seed per tray.

I buy 5 kg bags of sunflowers and peas. Not very cost effective for more than a "treat" or novelty unless you do buy the big bags.

I'd imagine in most places it would be a tough market to crack if you wanted to go semi commercial.

Those YT videos probably caused a market saturation.

Hey Doc, Ya that sounds right. The more you need the cheaper it gets though huh.. I'm not even sure I would totally concentrate on micros either, maybe do some other leafy greens and vertical style veggie crops too.

I'm sure i'll find the market to crack If I find myself wanting to use an endless amount. Maybe I could specialise in smaller and even micro sized trailers, and park them behind restaurants or right in town.. and visit all the locations everyday or so.

Or start a "microgreen machine" food truck business that I serve smoothies and salad wraps out of, all produced from a single container garden\farm at home.

Or just work the farmers markets as if im running a small scale 1/4 acre farm, but stuffed into a couple trailers that produce year round 24/7. I suppose it could be fun to compete with the other guys.



I can easily see buying bulk seed and filling a container sized grow in a matter of days on a small budget, after building literally all the infrastructure from scratch myself too. That's just the easy part so it seams...

Pleasantly surprised to find others interested in sprouts & microgreens. I've been growing my own salads for 10 years. Nothing tastes better than good nutrition feels.

I typically use 28g per tray. 5lbs of seeds costs about $40ish. That's 50 cents per tray.

Currently, I'm growing the micros in vermicompost.

4 trays of Kale ranging from 5 days old on the left to 13 days on the right.

I know I am resurrecting this thread but am wondering if you guys still grow the microgreens and if it was worth it for personal use.

Do you use all that you harvest or did it end up going to waste ? I am trying to grow something inconspicuous and then do a stealth cannabis grow. It will help me with justifying the cannon I purchased hahahahaha..

once u get your rotation down there is little waste. Or u can give it away. think time wise when planting but of coarse practice makes sorta perfect but good enough!
