Micro Grow Box Setup

Okay here goes...

First grow and I need a growbox design to suit 3 fem lowryders in a shed. Seeds arrived today. IM thinking plywood construction box, needs to be very discrete, Im inspired by the PC box designs Ive seen.

14g per plant would be just fine and keep me in weed constantly as Im not a massive smoker 1-2 gram per week ... until my supplier got busted that is!... so logic leads me to think that 1.5 oz per harvest would mean I would never run out based on a continual grow (albeit without any safety net if things go wrong). I have a shed but very limited space so Im thinking somwhere in the 15"Wx30"Lx30"D region. Kitted out with CFL/Envirolites, computer fan and matt white painted interior my questions are...

1. Is this feasible with these size constraints? Can I get 0.5oz per plant.
2. How many watts of lighting do I need? Using CFLs and still be confident of 0.5oz/plant?
3. Do I need a carbon filter? - if I vent to atmosphere will the neighbours be able to smell it (terraced house only ~4.5m wide)

Any input gratefully recieved!:joint:

Hi I'm a noob as well but I've been doing a lot of reading lately, as I too am starting my first grow with a similar setup.
1. In terms of size constraints and nothing else, yes, you can get 0.5oz per plant. Look into LST to keep your ladies short and dense.
2. Lumens per sq ft need to be higher than 3,000, in the 7,000 - 10,000 range is optimal. Your sq footage is ~3 therefore you need between ~9,000 - 30,000 lumens. I know that 1 23w CFL is 1600 lumens so you would need ~6-19 of these to be within an acceptable range.
3. A carbon filter can't hurt. You can make these extremely easily with disposable dishcloths sewn together to make a pocket and filled with activated carbon from any pet shop.

Hope this helps. Good luck with your growing.

First of all I'd get one 150W HPS with a Cool Tube or just air-cooled. Six to 19 CFL's sound like a pain in the ass. The power use would be close if not less. (19 bulbs vs. 1) Check out my fridge for Some DIY ideas. What's your height? 30"?
You will definitely need odor control. Good Luck and some pics will help for advice.

If you get a good light like daniel said (150wHPS) and you do some LST and/or topping, you should definitely see .5oz from a plant.

Here's a DIY Cooltube for a 150wHPS:http://forum.grasscity.com/grow-room-design-setup/160960-clean-easy-cool-tube-tutorial.html

yep good job purplehazin. after I posted this I found this
diy cool tube
on here and was gonna add it in an edit to this. I added a comment that's relevant for these. That's the DIY Carbon I borrowed from and UB's topping I use too. Something about great minds thinking alike:twisted:

Yes you guys are right 150w HPS would yield better results but he did say he wanted to use CFLs. My setup has 8 CFLs at the moment 23w each, however I could easily upgrade to 42w and almost double my output, and I find them to be a very cheap and easy solution for us noobs out there with limited space and funds. Good links purp and I agree with Daniel, let's see some pics!
