i have a 400wat metal halid and want to knw if i can put a 400w hps?What would happen if i put it on?will it work?

no it wont work,you can get a coversion bulb however

so conversion bulb would be best or just get a seperate hps

Get a digital ballast that supports both. That's what I have. When it comes time to flower, I just switch the bulb.

Don't do that you will pop your bulb or it will quit working or you will fuck up your ballast there is a reason they rate specific bulbs and ballast for your safety.

Yeah it certainly will not work if you put the HPS in the MH or vice versa. You can buy a switchable ballast for pretty cheap. All I do is switch my bulbs and I am good to go.
