MG + Hydro

MG, yes Miracle Grow in a hydro setup. It came to be because it's what I had, and couldn't decide on the myriads of designer nutes out there. So I used MG and it works. I'll finish this grow with it and then we'll see.
BTW the MG is powder and it's probably 15 years old.
Homemade drip system, runs 1/2 hour every 3 hours.
Indoor , hydroton, 400 w veg lamp.
Homemade C02 generator, sugar and yeast.
Air pump with aerator in the reserve tank with the pump for O2
This is of the reservoir, a 4 gall bucket with a submersible pump and an air stone.

This is the plant today, just changed to HPS and a 12 hour photo period

I'm adding Botanicare Cal-Mag to the solution now for flowering

This was a couple weeks ago.

And here is from my last grow.

So like Gramma said,
Use it up,
Wear it out,
Make it do,
Or do without.

At's what I did.
Will add to this thread as things progress.

do you ph your res and how often do you have to clean and change things ?

ah is that a flood and drain ?

Hmm dwc with MG is something I`d like to see someone pull off

Oh have you used your "1 per household" ? you can send some letter to MG and they either refund your money or send you a second tub if your not totally satisfied with it, lol

I had issues with the time release because I couldn't flush excess nitrogen, however was also my first grow so the true issue could lie with me. However their fertilizer worked fantastic! And yeah Konassure, I'm in DWC and would be interested in seeing that...although I'd still stick with my overpriced AN nutes... :p

My premixed nutes cost $25 for a gallon of A & B so cost is not a concern. Did try some H&G aqua flakes and yes it seemed to be very good but can't get past the price at $50 for two liters.

I've heard lots of good things about H&G nutrients for DWC? Have you any experience with this line of nutrients? Sorry for the off topic question, I'm just looking for a switch up in base nutes next run.

Great results but not sure if its price justifies the use more than the ones I normally use which are a quarter of the cost

Oh I see, thanks for the info. What would you reccomend for a DWC noob? I've 3 goes under my belt, but this is my first experience in DWC...I am using AN Sensi A+B which I have had good results so far with, but it's the only nute I've ever tried. ( Except Big Bud )

Only been doing hydro for 3 years so really not qualified to give a recommendation but again if you can get past the price hg is great. I use a two part from higrow/ezgrow that is made close to here and buy it at the plant. Not sure if its available else where. I used botanicare power flower two weeks ago and ph went crazy.

Well, I'd say you're qualified enough to give a noob like me recommendations hahaha. Anyways, thanks for the advice WaterDawg, I appreciate it!

Oh, looks like I forgot to follow my own thread, sorry.
I do check the Ph and change the water about every week.
And it's a drip system, every three hours. Sometimes the drip ring around the plant gets moved and it runs down the sides and runs out. So I have to change it. Not so much anymore, but that's why it's in the bathtub.
I like it because it makes it easy to deal with a separate reservoir for mixing. I get no debri, and as long as the water system is closed to light, I get no algae. Very clean.
(man, I will buy black hose next time rather than painting it . Takes 7 days to dry on plastic. And then flakes off.)
Aaaand, I think I might try a different nute next time, or when I run out of MG.

I did a flood & drain run a few yrs back using MG Liquid nutes just to show the anti MG crowd whats possible , had decent results too .

I had a hard time with the MG soil because of time release, in flower there was too much nitrogen and I couldn't flush....however MG fert works quite well IMO.

If you want a good single hydro nute

GH`s flora nova`s are both good and not that expensive the grow will do for veg and flower if your fussy you could buy the bloom too

You can always buy some mono potassium phosphate to add in powdered form it`s very cheap

Mono potassium phosphate is used a lot of commercial fertilizer companies as a steady source of potassium/phosphorous.

Well here it is at 120 days, Just about run out of room.
I had to trim out a lot of the fan leaves, they were shading everything below.
Grow-1-09-15-01.jpg Grow-1-09-15-02.jpg
Now it is still running Miracle Grow and Cal-Mag.
Might try some designer nutes as the MG powder is getting low. (after 4 grows).
The buds abound.
Grow-1-09-15-04.jpg
And yes, that is a large quartz crystal between the light and the plant.
Grow-1-09-15-03.jpg Just because I had it laying around.
If it doesn't hurt, why not.

PS All these were taken with the HPS lamp on and used the RAW files to color correct.

Broken Branch
JFYI, I had a chain fall from the reflector when moving it and broke one branch half way off.
I took a Q-tip and applied some cloning gell and held the branch up with a tiny bungie cord.
A few days later and whoda thunk, aside from a large knuckle where it broke, y'ad never known it had trauma.
It's just about that time, folks.Grow-Bungie.jpg
