Ohio patrol seizes 3 pounds in traffic stop

Submitted story

SWANTON -- Two men from Maine and a man from Montana are facing felony drug charges after Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers seized three pounds of BC Bud marijuana, valued at more than $135,000 during a traffic stop Friday on the Ohio Turnpike in Lucas County.

Troopers stopped a 2003 Toyota Sequoia for a registration violation, and a 2001 Volvo XC70 for a following too closely violation, westbound on the Ohio Turnpike near milepost 49 at approximately 10 a.m. Friday.

The driver of the Toyota, Charles L. Clark, 24, of Bozeman, Mont., was charged with possession of drugs and trafficking in drugs, both third-degree felonies. The driver of the Volvo, Aaron S. Gile, 19, of Gorham, Maine, and his passenger, Will P. Clark, 20 of Windham, Maine were both charged with complicity, a third-degree felony.

After the stop, occupants of both vehicles admitted to traveling together. Troopers observed criminal indicators and a patrol drug-sniffing canine alerted to both vehicles. A probable cause search revealed three pounds of BC Bud marijuana and paraphernalia in the Toyota.

The men are custody in the Lucas County Jail. If convicted, Charles Clark could face up to 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine. Will Clark and Aaron Gile could both face up to five years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine.

BC Bud marijuana is one of the most potent strains of cannabis, which is usually cultivated in British Columbia. It has a THC content of 30 percent as compared to only 4 percent in traditional marijuana.

Through November 2008, the patrol seized more than 4.6 million grams of illegal narcotics valued at nearly $45 million. In 2007, the patrol seized more than 3.3 million grams of illegal narcotics valued at approximately $53.8 million.

Besides, an economist would say, so why is it not being taxed... ... if its really valued at those numbers... Geez. smuggling is good stuff, but its not that expensive

30 percent THC! Yeah ok

And WTF is traditional marijuana?!?!!?

Or as someone has already said it's Bullsh*t, ans very sad :-(
it cost a lot on the east coast.

that was the first thing i thought when i read that. and then they claim avg mj is 4%.

in my personal experience, i have not recieved a single seed in the herb i purchase. I purchase a lot!. Not all is great but atleast 6-10% w/ the amount of trichs... i check every bag and every different strain with a 100x scope, its not perfect b/c of transport deterioration and commercial style handling. but ALWAYs gram,1/8, 1/4 oz nugs. so the insides are very much so intact. prices are a bit high any where from 950-1600 1/4lbs,(up to 6k a lb., or 18k for 3.)

and eights go for 60-80... the 40-50buds have few customers. and is really hard to sell! people ask their customers if they want the 60$ bag or the 70$bag. and they always want the more expensive. good herb used to be about 90-100 a quarter of good stuff about 3 years ago.

And back to the potency thing, i believe the current TESTED average(meaning many samples) a rise to 6-8%.

with the most potent on record like 24% i think. And that stuff rarely makes it away from vancouver, cali, amsterdam. Not that of good stuff doesnt make its way out, but the 10-20% stuff is all day everyday, everywhere in north america. Its just those few plants that lived at one point and it difficult to get those supperduper genetics out in a commercial manner. PLease correct me if i am wrong with credible evidence. I know you will.

And given that there is some really shitty weed out there, guess where its coming from... MEXICAN drug lords.. These guys make mexico a more dangerous place for reporters, police and military, than iraq or afghanistan. And these drug lords make up for the losses of other drugs siezed at the border like heroin, coke, meth, is marijuana profits in the US.

if legalized, controlled, taxed. yikes, how is this possible... how can media and people be soo blind to this issue. its war of the young vs the old, obama vs mccain... the young, obama won... The time is now.

its up to you... Please go to www.norml.org and vote at both change.gov and change.org

$43.3K per pound? Sounds to me like the reporter is a pothead trying to seduce enterprising politicians into legalizing it. The whole article is B.S. but if the lawmakers think it is really worth that much, then they may see the dollar signs sooner. I think this kind of press is good for the [legalization] cause. Politicians lie to us all the time to get their way. Why should we not deceive them from time to time?

Your logic makes sense if only the general public wasnt scared of a lot of money..

heres, a few things i want to note. Most people dont have 130k, if they woke up one day with 130k they wouldnt know WTF to do with it, and would prolly call the police who would then find a way to take it from them..

Who can be classified as the general public, rural america, urban america, young americans, old people, minorities, All these groups are going to have different opinions on this issue given they have different enviromental education.

But politicians need to see the $$ signs when talking legalization. But the hardcore republicans want more business in the forced manner, such as jails.

rrr... some people see 130k/3lbs as entreprenurial, while others view that as criminal scummy behavior that needs to be punished... Same thing with growing, as if it is any different than growing a tomato garden outside in the summer.

Its such bullshit what they pull on the Ohio turnpike around milepost 50. They have 2 or more K-9 units posted up almost all of the time, in both directions, and anyone that looks even slightly out of place, or has out of stat plates traveling in either direction will be pulled over.

They will run their dogs and make them indicate on the vehicle so they can search. I witnessed one of their K-9's walk all the way around a vehicle and finally when the officer got the other side the dog "indicated", giving them the right to search. Now this was a brand new vehicle that has never had anything in it.

BTW if anyone is in Lucas County Ohio, Toledo area, and needs a great criminal defense lawyer give Richard Roberts a call.

Around here I assume that might be a fair price for 100lbs, but even that wouldn't be too much cheaper than buying by the pound.. ($1500-$2400 perhaps)

i love how they always compare weed of today to weed of years ago, i mean shit if you think about it weed of today has far less danger to the user in terms of health, just think of mexican donkeys pooping on the shit and the gov spraying paraquat and other chemicals trying to kill off the fields then some slime bag dragging it through a sewer in a paper bag to get here, yeah i think todays weed is much safer from a contamination point of view
