MegaCrop Old vs New Side-by-Side

I am starting a new side-by-side grow to compare the old MegaCrop formula to the new one. I hope I have enough of the old formula to make a full comparison, but we will see.

The Setup
  • Lighting: Custom built 3000K and 3500K Vero29 SE COBs totaling about 820 watts.
  • Medium: DWC in 5 gal buckets
  • Sprouting Method: Soak and Paper towel
  • Light Schedule: 18/6 veg, 12/12 flower
  • Seeds: 4x Grandaddy Purple, 4x Cookies N Chem
  • Nutrients:
    • MegaCrop old formula for 2 of each strain.
    • MegaCrop new formula for 2 of each strain.
    • No other nutrients will be used for this since it is purely about comparing the two formulas
  • Conditions:
    • No soaking of seeds in anything other than water.
    • No supplementing of any nutrients outside of MC.
    • No change in lighting methods or schedules outside of flip to flower.
    • Seeds are regular photoperiod non-fem seeds. If males pop up, they may be grown for pollen, but will be removed from the comparison.
    • If at least three of each strain is not female, the grow may be cancelled since it is too close to phenotype differences to count as a real comparison.

I like the shots of your light in the droplets of water.

I just got Mega Crop free sample in the mailbox, today... I had to give the product a try, seeing as if it works the price cannot really be beaten... we'll see how my current grow goes augmenting with mega crop... 11 little babies in the early stages presently...

Not knockin anything, but i think using the same plant/clone across the board would be a little better for a "new vs old" run myself.

I'll still be watching regardless.
That's next time. A LOT of people don't use clones. This first one is just about from seed. I know clones would be more accurate, but it removes any differences that may be observed during early veg stages. I would be running both at the same time, but the laws here limit how many plants I can have at one time.

The Cookies N Chem all dropped tap roots and are moved to rooter plugs. The GDP will need another eight hours or so. The plugs are sitting in a SUPER mild MC solution at a .25g / gal mix. I know most people wait until the tap root is a bit longer, but I find that as long as a tap root has sprouted, they generally do well once moved. As a bonus, short tap roots also means easier to get in the rooter plugs.

All seeds are in plugs now. I am really not impressed with the GDP seeds. Out of four, only two threw a tap root and barely at all even after two days in the paper towels. I have never had ILGM seeds fail on me before so this is disappointing. We will see what happens. I may end up with only four plants. If that is the case, I may do a second set in soil as a comparison there or possible do a clone set.
