Marijuana legalization campaign led by Charlottetown MP
Canada should follow Colorado and Washington state and legalize marijuana, says Sean Casey

Regulating marijuana is 'the way to protect our young people,' says Charlottetown MP and Liberal justice critic Sean Casey.

Legalizing marijuana will help take it out of the hands of young people, says Charlottetown MP Sean Casey. (Matt Rainnie/CBC)

Casey has been given the Liberal Party's file on its plans to legalize marijuana. He sent an email in support of the change to thousands of party members and supporters on Friday.

Casey told CBC News one of drivers behind the policy is a 2013 UNICEF report that found Canadian teens have the highest cannabis use among developed countries, with 28 per cent of 15-year-olds admitting use in the last year.

"It's very easy for young people to get their hands on marijuana now," he said.

Do you believe legalizing marijuana will help keep it out of the hands of young people?

I don't like how they always use mj as the big evil
In this case to keep it from the young people , who already admit to using it anyways

In the political world they have to spin it and keep the message simple or people won't listen or pay attention, although distasteful to some, this isn't a bad approach and opposite to Harper's approach, which we all know is not working... Can you imagine someone trying to explain the real benefits of MJ to the masses with a .5 second attention span?

Anyone have a link to this email? I'm on Liberal mailing list but have not yet given them money. I did not get the email mentioned in the article, but would sure like to read it!

Only if the gov will sells ozs a $100 or less and allows say 25 plants per house hold. I'm just making up the plant numbers but for cannabis itself you have to undercut the black market but a large margin. Even at $100 per oz the gov and the producers will be making a killing.
