Medical Marijuana in Oregon

I'm moving to Oregon in April and I plan on getting an OMMP card as soon as I get my residency. My questions is where you are supposed to find marijuana once you get the card. There are no dispensaries, so do they just expect everyone to buy it illegally? I know I can grow my own, but I'll be moving into a tiny studio apartment and i'm not sure if the manager will allow anyway. Are there any resources at all that connect patients to caregivers or growers? I just find it so annoying to have to walk around like a criminal asking people under my breath if they know wher to find some pot.

So what part of Oregon are you moving to? I have lived in Portland on and off in my life, and generally it is not too hard to find pot in Portland. In fact, if you walk around parts of downtown Portland, people will ask YOU if you want to buy some pot. You can usually haggle with these people. They're usually street kids, and they hang out around Pioneer Square and at the Waterfront. You will usually get skimped on quantity if you buy on the street, so it is best to find a reliable source. If you feel sketched out, don't buy it from them.

Go to somewhere like Stumptown Coffee House or Portland Coffee House, both located downtown. If you make some friendly conversation with the patrons, you can surely find some bud. Everybody knows somebody in Portland who could get weed. This is better than buying it on the street.

As for your apartment manager, FUCK THEM. They can't do shit. You never have to even tell them you are growing marijuana. Generally nobody can say anything to you either if you are smoking in your own apartment. I rented a tiny box studio apartment on the 4th floor in downtown Portland and I smoked up a storm every day I lived there. Nobody ever said anything, and my hallway often smelled of some fine dank.

In Portland, I think they have something called MAMA's, which is kind of like a marijuana cooperative that sells clones and can hook up a patient. I have never used them but look into it.

And sorry if you aren't moving to Portland, but seriously dude, anywhere else in the state is NOT worth moving to. Sure, some people will disagree, but if you want a marijuana-friendly city, go to Portland for sure.

I'll be moving to downtown Portland. I'll be a student at PCC in the summer. I move into the St. Francis apartments off Main in April. I spent the week here (fell in love with this place) and this was my experience trying to find some herb, granted I don't yet have an OMMP card as I am not yet a resident (I'll have some follow up questions on that).

So following the internets advise, I headed down the waterfront. Within seconds, I had scored an eighth of some decent nugs. It really couldn't have been easier. I strolled down the river, made eye contact with theirst bud smoking looking fella, lifted my gaze to his and he asked if I wanted to take a walk. I actually split it between two guys (which they decided). Apperently not only is it easy to find, you'll have competition. This actually made it very akward for me as these two were openly arguing over who would sell me the meds in broad daylight. Kids we're walking by. One guy gave me much better meds with better quantity as well, so I guess it very much matters who you deal with. All in all, I was pleased with what I got for $50 (it was a little short, but I usually pay $60 in Texas), but I hated having to deal with street dealers and then feel sketchy walking by cop after cop down the street. The one thing I admittedly did not do is approach people at coffee shops or bars. Admiteddly, I'm a pretty shy guy in person and approaching complete strangers is not my strongest suit, especially when talking about weed.

I managed to talk to a guy who had lived in the apartments I am staying, and from what he tells me, nobody is going to care if I smoke weed. It's an income restricted residence, and you get a certain environment there that I guess will make it not a problem. So all in all, I guess it wont be too much a problem to find when I really need it, I just wished there was a legal outlet. The good news, some groups are pushing for a 2010 ballot that would allow dispenseries in Oregon.

Once I've been here for awhile and made a few friends, like you say, I'm sure I will be connected to a regular dealer eventually. I plan on frequenting Mt. Hood and given the fact that I have a car, I'll probably find some people willing to exchange info for a ride share.

OK, so on to my questions about the OMMP cards. It is my understanding that the basic process goes as this.

1. Go to a clinic and express your need for a OMMP card.
2. They will ask you for doctors reports of your condition. These reports cannot be more than three years old and must purtain to your specific condition.
3. They will review your doctors reports and if they decided you qualify, they will start the process to get your card.
4. You'll meet with an OMMP certified doctor who will approve you or not, or seomthing along this lines.

Ok, so my question is this. My conidtion is severe migraines. I've had them since I was little. They are debilitating and cause to vomit. Since I was a young kid, I tried several medications that never worked, just made me nausous. In college, a friend recommendned marijauna during a serious attack and the affects were immediate. Ever since, I have self medicated whenever the condition required it. That was 6 years ago and I haven't been to a doctor since except for the very occasional checkup. Other than the migraines, I'm as healthy as a horse. So, how do I show reports of my condition. Should I begin visiting a doctor now and complaining of migraines? Will I have to go back on the prescriptions that made me so ill? From what I have been told so far, the best bet is to find a doctor in Portland and begin making regural appointments ASAP. Do you have any other advise?

I would begin making appointments, but I would not retry the meds you had bad reactions to. Be honest with your doctor about what you've tried and what you haven't. A good doctor will not ask you to take something that makes you sick and doesnt work. Your regular doctor, especially if it is with an HMO, you prbably don't want to tell about mj. There are a few clinics here that help process applications. THe one I know and recommend is thcf, it will cost $180 for appointment, unless you're low income, then it's $100. And the State Filing fee is $100 unless you have Oregon Health Plan which would make it $20.

Youre right about the records, and thcf will tell you once they see them if you need to bother coming in. One or two chart notes should be enough.
www.oregon.gov/DHS/ph/ommp/index.shtml
Here is all the paperwork you will be expected to fill out and the applicable laws.
We also have oregon norml and oregongreenfree that distribute free clones to patients. :weed:

howdy in need of,

i live in oregon and can definitely attest to iancurtis that "mama's" is the way to go. i'm a cardholder for a stomach condition and was a member of portland norml for a while, and i've attended OGF meetings, but mama's is my favorite.

also, the THCF clinic will assist you in getting your card. YOU DO NOT NEED TO TELL YOUR REGULAR DOCTOR THAT YOU WANT A CARD. the THCF clinic will ONLY need a copy of your medical records that show your CONDITION. the TCHF clinic has a doctor there who will actually write the prescription needed for the state paperwork. also, you will leave the clinic with the application complete and ready to mail.

good luck and welcome oregon,

b
