Damn. Just noticed you said you tried and it helped you. Sweet! You may have a hell of a time finding a doc that will prescribe as they love their pharmaceuticals. If I where you I'd be completely honest with your doc and see how it goes. If he truly wants to help you it shouldn't be hard to show him that it works for you. Do your research and go in armed with docs about cannabis and it's neuroprotective/mood stabilizing properties. I'm not going to edit the rest of my post as I'm lazy. Please don't take it as preachy, I'm just trying to be as honest as possible with my life experiences.

I am no expert on the topic but do have some experience via family. I'd give it a shot and wouldn't worry about the trigger issue as it's been debunked, by numerous studies, and is par with reefer madness mentality. I'd go with a high CBD as it should be the most beneficial for your condition.
Now for some brutal truth. My little brother is schizophrenic and has been living with his condition for over 20 years. While smoking does help him a lot it is NOT a substitute for his meds. The side affects of the pharmaceuticals are brutal, I understand that, but not taking your meds is not only hard on oneself but also hurts everyone around you. There's a chance that, like my brother, you may be able to lower the dosage of your meds thereby lowing the severity of the side affects. Without the harsh side affects it's easier to force yourself to take your meds. He still stops taking his meds ocassionally and even with smoking cannabis he still ends up in psychosis.
There are forums out there where you can get advise from people living with schizophrenia as they would be a lot more helpful than a cannabis forum.
I know it's not the easiest of conditions to deal with, peace and best of luck.
