Medical Marijuana and life insurance

Recently opened a life insurance policy, now that I can afford it ... And my wife and sister work for the same insurance company so we've insured everything but my left nut so far.

Just of the story is that my rates are higher due to my mmj license. I had to do a phone interview with a nurse that had a few questions regarding health issues with my immediate family but 90% of the interview was based around my marijuana use. She asked me several times if I used cocaine or heroin and was very persistent on this topic.

I know that you get asked these questions in any case but I felt like she was trying to make me fess up to using hard drugs as well, which I don't and haven't in a very long time.

Anyone else get treated differently when opening a life insurance policy due to your mmj use?

well it kinda pissed me off. the wifey used to take anti depressants, takes birth control and has been on a few different kinds. took morning sickness pills during both pregnancies. i haven't touched a drug other than cannabis in at least 5 years,i barely even take ibuprofen or acetaminophen.

i use one medication and get pummeled with questions. she got asked briefly about illicit drugs and it was basically like ok thanks bye, where as i was on the phone for 30 minutes.

nurses can be bitchy and self righteous
chalk it up it her putting her own damn personal opinions and feelings onto you

let it go and move on
nurses are over worked, while its not an excuse for their more often than not shitty behaviour its because they dont have any time to work on self care.

i would just let it go

I went through the same thing.
My insurer said I had to pay 200 extra per year because I smoke.
But I never mentioned mj.
Well a month later I get a call and they say since we found mj in your blood it's actually an extra 700 per year because it's twice the smoke so twice the chance of lung cancer etc.
I questioned why they weren't worried about the high amount of perks I consume and she said it doesn't effect lifespan.... I literally laughed and told her I don't smoke my mj so if you add anything more than 200 you lose my business.
Policy came in the mail and mj was never mentioned again.

I went through the whole process about 2 years ago. They wanted to treat me as a smoker even though I don't smoke tobacco. My rates would have been more than double then a non smoker.

I told them my main form of ingestion was to vape. I even showed the nurse my vaporizers when she came to do the exam. As well as literature backing up the fact that vaping canabiss is much more healthy then smoking.

They still wanted me to pay smokers rates. I said no thanks.

Absolutely same experience here. And after all the hard drug questions were satisfied, I was informed...."because the long term effects of smoking MMJ are not known, coverage is limited to $175K". Total BS what insurance companies can get away with!

I don't have life insurance, but I got tenants insurance on my place in September and there was a clause above where I signed that said I agreed there was no 'marijuana activity' on the premises. I was going to ask what the fuck marijuana activities included, but decided to shut up and not mention I use it. My grow is not on this property so...Fuck 'em.

INS...... is a scam more times than none...

as for Tenants medication being handled by a landlord? That'd never fly in court! :)

Well I didn't give her a hard time or anything but it was still kind of annoying.

nurses are just generally pretty bitchy people and short and blunt

just let it go really theres nothing you can do about it
yes its annoying, chalk it up to bad customer service and move on with life ya know?

I think I've done that by not giving her a hard time or cancelling my policy.

I just wanted to know if others had a similar experience.

My doctor and my "doctor" are two different people. I'd just say that I don't smoke and move on. Do they drug test, will they autopsy?
