Medical Marijuana and Children : Who's right and Who's wrong?

I read a lot of articles based upon medical marijuana and I thought this one was interesting. As I am not around friends at the moment I figured I would see what fellow RIU'ers think about this.

Here is an article I read earlier,

http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/AutismNews/mother-son-marijuana-treat-autism/story?id=9153881

"Within hours, he requested foods we had never seen him eat before," said Hester-Perez.

She added that her son used to take a cocktail of medications, three times every day, for his condition. He now takes only three, and he has a marijuana brownie once every two or three days. He still cannot communicate verbally.

I think, personally; until medication is approved by the FDA the public is going to have a wary opinion on medical cannabis in children. I am oppposed to medical cannabis being given to children with "ADHD" type personalities. However, I'm not quite sure I am opposed to children with life-threatening illnesses ingesting cannabis.

What do you guys think?

Good for them......prescription drugs are dangerous.....especially when taken at a constant rate.......I would do the same under those conditions....it's a no brainer....

I think if a child has a SERIOUS medical condition that cannabis can benefit, have at it. Half the shit doctors push is nothing but poison that might help one thing but causes 10 other side effects for the one thing it might help.

I believe in most cases it is up to the parents in each individual case.

And if it is life threatening Who is anyone to say no you should not
do it?

I'd agree...when used medically, cannabis should have no age restriction. If ever legalized...yes, something similar to alcohol age requirements.

This is the biggest thing I have a problem with. The fact that we truly do not know what harm is coming to children through the hardcore medications, we should come up with a dosage chart for medical mj.

I just ended a career spanning a decade in animal research at a CRO (contract research facility) that does the animal testing for the efficacy and toxcity of drugs for submision to the FDA. I promise you that I know first hand that every drug that goes to the FDA has a lethal dosed based on the LD50 testing we do for submission. Marijuana does not have an LD50. An ld50 is short hand for Lethal Dose for 50% of an animal population. We find that dose level, no matter how out of wack from actual dose levels it may be for obvious safety reasons. In short I am 100% sure that every pahrmacuetical they give a child HAS a lethal dose level. Marijuana does not. Its 100% propaganda that makes us question the herb at all. WATER HAS A TOX LEVEL. seriously, it does. Pot does not. Its a brainwashing that we're cautious wth pot dispensing and shovel the pills in like there is no way to do harm. I hope this changes some points of view. THEY say pot is dangerous. Science proves it is not. I got with science every time. I don't want to be getting my kids high, be very clear on that but if there was any positive thinig to giving my kids pot or pot could take the place of any meds I'd do it without question or guilt or second guessing. My $0.02.

That may be the first post of value that I have seen from you.
Thanks for the input.
