Medic Grow lights -- is this deal too good to be true?

These 1000W Medic Grow Lights seem comparable to the Gavita 2400 and Fluence SpyderX Plus, but for ~half the price.

Looking to cover four 4x6 flood trays. A 5x5 light footprint would work.

Trash or great deal?

Alternatively, I'd consider buying 12 2x4 lights to cover the whole space -- but all the 2x4 lights I've seen seem inadequate.

You will also need the ceiling height for this fixture
Garage with a deck inside in the back. Veg upstairs, sunlight + supplemental lighting under a 16mm opal/privacy polycarbonate roof (currently using 18x5.5 fo veg). Flower room is underneath -- ceiling is just over 7' (using ~16x5.5 for flower).

AC upstairs in window, 2 750W heaters, 3 6L humidifiers, fans, exhaust fan as needed.

Downstairs, AC/heater in window (behind panda film), lots of fans, 2 dehimidifiers, 1 commercial grade ozonator.

Drying and curing area is adjacent to flower room -- shelves/hanging area wrapped in panda film.

Open cell foam insulation on all walls, but not what's left of the metal ceiling (only a thin insulation sheet).

No word on the driver concerns me, as those are the first and most common thing to shit out on LEDs.

I don't think its a terrible deal, but you get what you pay for. I would check and see if they have a warranty program.

The spectrum x driver is Sosen

Google search brought up this.


The EZ-8 has 2816 full spectrum Samsung LM301Z+ diodes with a color temperature of 4000K. They add an additional 64 red diodes, which makes a total of 2,880 diodes or 2.88 diodes per watt. To power them, Medic Grow designed drivers that are manufactured by Sosen. The 2,880 diodes are distributed among 8 LED bars.

Looks like a good light, only thing I didn’t see was what led’s they use (301b, 301h, 281, etc.)
I'm not a fan of Sosen drivers & (for reasons stated) - it's either Mean Well or Inventronics, they are all I build with.
I wouldn't get hung up on the LED brand though I have plenty of Samsung (real ones placed by HLG) as well as Lumileds and Seoul Semiconductor and even a few asian boards but I'm not so sure they're what brand they say they are.

One flower area is all Lumileds right now and has a total of 3456 LEDs - definitely works fine.
In comparison another space has 3168 LM301B's and they don't do quite as well with around the same drive wattage.
I've not heard anything bad about medicgrow either but I've also read the top amz sold brands people are very happy with.
FWIW any of those people I've followed on some of their adventures who have added HLG gear usually become a fan and exclaim they are better from a quality, yield increase and endurance/durability factor.
Whether built DIY or just bought outright.
If I was buying pre built RN and trying to be the cheapskate I am I wouldn't have a problem trying one out - Lord knows I've wasted so much on blurples...
Just remember you STILL generally get what you pay for.

I paid too much for individual Fluence Ray 66 lights (66 inches) ... at the time, I didn't know anything about PAR. Rays are meant for veg and, even with 6 bars over each 4x6 (720 watts), I'm only in the high yield PAR range for about 3" from the lights, so I have a roughly uniform distribution of medium yield PAR ... dammit. Back then, I was focused on the length, purported 150k light hour lifespan, color spectrum, and the perceived benefit of each 66" bar light having its own driver. 29 lights x >$320 per each light & driver (24 for bloom, 4 in veg + sun, and 1 extra). At least, I can repurpose them as veg room backups -- the sun does most of the work.

So, I'm trying to be smarter about my next light purchase. Philips recently acquired Fluence and discontinued the Ray 66.... Friday, I emailed Fluence, asking to buy ~10 backup drivers (@ ~$55 each), but they might not have any left. I've got one backup. Well, as soon as I'm short a driver, I'll have to buy new gear. All those light hours left and no way to buy additional drivers unless the shorter Rays use the same driver. Sucks.

Anyway, I'm hoping to buy 1 new light fixture at a time over the next few years if I'm paying ~$1100/Gavita 2400 or Fluence SpyderX Plus -- but at Med Grow's price point, I'd buy 4 at once. Med Grow's driver has to be >$55 per backup driver; but I'd like to buy a couple spare drivers, so I'm not waiting weeks for a replacement through the warranty. At ~$500 to $600 per light, it might make sense to buy an extra 1 or 2 to avoid downtime if a driver blows.

That's just one more reason I DIY, the Mean Well HLG series and Inventronics drivers are readily available and they have substitutes once another is discontinued.
FWIW the medicgrow retail stores are in Michigan and I am too - yet I buy HLG panels because they have never failed and @Budzbuddha has some he's had a long, long time - so he can give testament too!

Thanks! I can take a pic tomorrow morning. Each driver is only 3.15 amps -- but that's 18.9 amps and 720 watts per every 6 bars. You might think they'd be more powerful. I shouldn't have a problem until summer. But I've made improvements to climate control, so I might not have a problem this year.

Three amps by itself doesn't mean much unless you figured the operating voltage - 3.15@48vdc is only about 150 w while 3.15@118vdc is over 370 w.
Sounds like the bars run around 36vdc ea but we'll see what you take a picture of!
I'll be around if the good Lord lets me have another day...
