Yeah i think that is only way to go the was looking at instead of `185's going to the 240's but there is 11 week wait and run cobs HARD

I guess 4 GPW is probably close to the maximum possible yield, using close to 100% efficiency chips if we ever get there .. that would be amazing :eyesmoke:

(based on 50% efficiency reaching max ~2GPW ..)
Not 4 grams per watt, but 4 grams per par watt, same as 2 grams per watt at 50% efficiency. GPPW removes the lights electrical efficiency from the equation. The grow mentioned achieved a yield of 588 grams from a 350 watt output light source at 42% efficiency. 1.68 grams per watt and 4 grams per par watt. It's strain dependent but yields of over 2 GPW are achievable. Taking my example using a 42% efficiency light... the same strain under the same conditions using a 65% efficient light source would produce 2.6 GPW. Lemon Thai FWIW.

Not much in theory. It's about 12% less wattage but when you factor in phototropic efficiency the difference should be a bit less. Still, 5-10% increase on a grow bordering 1000w is no small potatoes, space considered. Could lead into the "what is the best PPFD" argument. Someone I know recently pulled 1.7 GPW from Vero 29v1 at .7 amps, 770 PPFD. :) They were surprised.

AKA: 4 GPPW at 770 PPFD... another dot for my chart.
I am not feeling inadequate, just wanted confirmation for my own guesstimate, lol

I've been working my way up the PPfD curve for a long time now. This combo was advertised (by @REALSTYLES ) as providing 811-824 PPfD over 6'sq. If I decide that's inadequate, I can simply add another module or two and choose between 1040 and 1255 PPfD!

Modular components are fun! More people should use them. I bet if someone decided to manufacture modules with just a couple COBs each, they'd enjoy excellent sales because their lights would be more adaptable for more situations than anyone else's...

Yeah that's Jerry. Just be aware there will be $40 s/h but it will be SUPER FAST. He doesn't ship by slowass "China Mail" anymore. (I had some replacement leds sent from..cough, cough, Marshydro...took 7 weeks via "China Mail". Jerry sends TNT or some other service, will likely come in 2-3 days, max.)

Ok, 20x CXB3590s 36V@1400mA (50W each) in 5x5'
is 973 PPFD

Very nice! I first thought 20 COBs would be crazy, but it's just the right/optimal amount of light.
(Common understanding is that +/- 1000 PPFD is optimal, where you max out on light, anything above not really worth it because of diminishing returns.)

there the skills of the grower comes in as well so guys do overkill & do get Killer stuff but ya gotta know what yer doing

I'm using 4kK myself and there's still plenty of stretch, so I certainly wouldn't want to go lower. I got internodes of about 4". I'd actually go for 5kK if I was buying now. That's very close to natural sunlight, which I can assure you is not warm white. It is in fact 5780K.
Use a little kelp & alfalfa? helps keep the stretch down some, also the night and day difference being kept to 5-10 degree difference also helps.

Atleast it worked for me. Just food for thought.

Yo J, I've been following this thread but I might have missed where you talk about the efficiency of your 12 3590's on 2x HLG 240H C1050.

I'm just curious what the numbers are for 6 CXB3590's on a HLG 240H C1050.

The closest thing I could find was Supra's:

@61.2%
(5) CXB3590 3500K CD 36V @ 1.05A (35.5W ea) $237.50
(1) HLG-185H-C1050 $65
177.5 dissipation W -> 68.9W heat ->
passive cooled heatsink 8268cm² -> 4.9"X36" $70
or
active cooled heatsink 2756cm² -> 3.5"X36" heatsink (for spread) $45 + 80mm fan + psu $10
(5) lenses $20
108.63 PAR W covering 6ft² =
$392.50 = $3.61/PAR W passive cooled
$377.50 = $3.48/PAR W active cooled​

But of course, you're using the 240 driver instead of the 185, as well as 6 COBs instead of 5.
