One suggestion would be to recommend a(or several smaller in the same vein as the originals) replacement driver, since the stock drivers are probably low quality as well.

I want to do this to my mars 2 700. Does anyone know the specs on the drivers they use? I pulled it apart and the drivers say nothing on them. I don't have a meter to take readings.

Can he buy a cheap meter from ebay? I got this one from ebay for 8$ including free shipping to my house - arrived in about a week.

from what I heard 2nd hand that Sara from MarsHydro said all the driver were the same
that's why that mars 1600 is really heavy ? my guess I'll look in my 900's see how many are there
but my guess is they use a single standard to make stock & assy cheap easy
you can tell they are slapped together fast , the heat sinks show the cut marks from the saw
I will say they did work well for me , the bud waz killerz but onward new tech Yahoo

I have received quite a few messages from people with various MARS fixtures asking if a conversion could be done on their model. I contacted MARS myself to find out first hand about their drivers.

After confirming if my "unit" is a one hander or a 2 hander..........
mars.jpg

she confirmed that all of the non "pro" (lol) series fixtures use the exact same driver.

universal input voltage (110-220v)
output voltage range (40-80v)
output current 700ma

which is really nice for the configs we use. that means 2 vero29, cxa3xxx, cxb, basically 2 of whatever will run on each driver.

I wish I would have included 'adding a thermal switch in the video' to keep everyone safe on these sketchy heatsinks.

oh well, hope this helps anyone who reads it. and owns a mars. or any other cheap chinese led .

if that's Sara she's Hot ! She treated me very well & gave a me a great discount on multiples

The driver issue is great news , I can start hacking away on the 900's ,just wish I could get a solid fix on buying only the best binned CXB3070 cobs (PLC will not have till the 10th ) as I ready to buy now , no idea if they will sell out by the 10 th
already ordered the cob holders
using the mars pwr suppiles not the best option but one that will work till I can meanwell things all around

any other pwr supply companies ? meanwell are cadillacs of pwr supplies there must be a mid range MFGer

They are not the same the 300w has smaller drivers, but the 5w 300 might. Also the drivers are about 88% efficient per Supras testing a Mars 1200 driver. The sales reps at Mars don't know shit about their products lol.

are they just a different size, or have you confirmed different output stats? I am sure the sales Rep is no Rhodes Scholar, but it is possible that they switched the driver's physical size but retained the same stats.

@cityworker415 what kind of COB is that? never seen a 3070 that looks like that. if it's not you that's cool, but you're handle is listed as the seller in Amazon.
