Guns are all about federal laws, under federal law it is illegal to even possess a firearm if you use what is considered "illegal drugs" under federal law. But, as far as I know there is no federal database of card holders so it may not come up under a check, but if the state has this record, which I know they do, I imagine at some point during that background check this fact would pop up and be seen on the federal end. You need someone from California that actually knows the laws to answer this.

no you cant have a medical card and a concealed carry permit at the same time! if you have a ccp and then get a medical marijuana card when your carry permit comes up for renewal it will be denied!

Doesnt matter...... ANY amount of ANY type of drug in combination with a firearm, whether licensed or not, is a felony that is punishable with a minimum of 5 yrs.... One yr to serve is the minimum if you get caught like this in RI (medical state as well)

So let me rephrase. I'm in CA. I have a docs recommendation. As far as I know, that's where it stops. I have no card. If I apply for a CCW, will my docs rec get in the way of me obtaining the permit?

I don't see how it could being you do not have a medical card which would make you a "user", being recommended by a doctor or being given permission to start the med card process means nothing and should have no effect on a CCW. If you receive that CCW then get a med card that's where the real questions about legality begin.
