Male hermed

Hey there breeders of RIU..

Ok i'll keep it simple and supply pics.

I have some Black Creek Gardens SPYDER auto plants going. 1 fem in my tent with my grow and 2 males in a closet with 150w HPS 24/7.

A few weeks after the males showed sex the FIRST to show sex popped purple calyx with pistils.
It was a male. now it has pollen sacs coming out the calyx between pistils.. it's very cool looking.

Anyone seen this or can let me know what it means?

is that on your female "fem"? not on the males right? ive seen some fem strains give off those female flower with male inards a couple times, and in your case they look shiny not powdery, most likely stagnant male parts with no pollen present. unless theres an abundance of these on the plant i wouldnt worry, usually see em down low. GL

No that is on the male. it was male until it started doing this. i have 2 males together. i wouldn't leave an unintentionally hermed female around.......

I've been collecting the pollen off of this one and a straight male. both are SPYDER auto's sativa dom purple pheno.

That is just 2 microscope shots of him. i can get a larger picture if needed to prove that it is male not female. but i didn't think i would be questioned about it. lol

Dude. Stew. Bro. I was wondering. Can you breed any strain with any other? or do you want to, say, keep autos with autos and so on? I was thinking of taking a crack at creating a few of my own crosses and would love your input.

Auto's with auto's you get auto's. as long as BOTH are stable strains....
Auto's with photoperiod can take up to 10 generations to stabilize... The Spyder is F9 gen.

The first cross between auto and photo will result in zero autoflowering plants.
if you then take a male and female from those and the progeny of that will have around 25% auto.
In order to create stable auto. you must remove all non auto's and cross the auto's from the F2 progeny,
this will give around 50% or so auto's in the next batch of progeny.
you keep doing this until you get 100% and then you may even keep going.
BCG Spyder is in F9 currently. after F5 the results were 100% autoflowering seeds. Sativa dom purple pheno.

That's actually pretty fascinating to think about. Thanks boss. I have a LOT of research to do.

First. if you want to breed to create your own strain. prepare for a lot of small plant.
minimum 16oz-max 20oz cups. this way you can grow 40 plants in a 3'x3' location.
picking and choosing which traits you like and throwing out the rest.
But you can't be 100% sure if the traits you like are dominant or recessive.. so be prepared to waste a lot of time. lol good luck

I stated pollenating the female with these pollen sacks i keep pulling off this dude.
I've never pulled pollen sacs from INSIDE a calyx before. lol...
At least he looks good.
He's got more deeper purple than the female i got going. lol

I'm still hoping someone has seen this before and can explain it to me a bit. Remember it is MALE not female but hermed.

That description confused me a little at first. Not sure what you are asking since you seem to know already. I'm trying to create some fem seeds myself and been doing some reading up especially on hermies and yes males can turn hermie too. Usually just a means to survive in non-optimal conditions, sometimes a real hermie. Chances are less, but it can happen with males (for the same reasons it happens with females).

OUch... so that's probably what's going on in my kitchen then... I used Tiresias Mist to produce pollen sacks on one branch. Quite a few sacks, barely to no pollen though. What could cause those stagnant empty balls?

trick i learned from another breeder may help you out.
i don't know if it has worked for me or not yet but he always has success with it..


After you remove your pollen sacs. dry them out.
crush them up(get like one of them medicine bowls with the smasher)
if your pollen is dry enough then the viable pollen will be crushed up with the rest of it.
this saves you time and effort collecting powdered pollen only from the plants.
Once the pollen sacks open, they should be viable. regardless of it if shed pollen into the air or not.

I've got 44 plants. most are vegging. the auto's are flowering or getting ready to.. I just don't wanna get pollen into the tent and when i flip fuck it all up.

6 planned crosses and breeding another 8 of 14 back for seeds.


Too many different pollens to just put my pollen source in with the rest.... If i was running all one strain i wouldn't care too much. but i can't fuck up 14. lol... How's that La Fruitta Di Venus doing?? the CS method work for you??

I bought a 4 fl. oz. 500PPM CS on amazon for under $20 including shipping

Made 4 strengths(Dank told me how to do this) 150PPM, 250PPM, 300PPM, and 500PPM. I'll let you know how it does with the BD clones i am gonna be starting next week.

next round im going to play with the higher ppm's supposedly suppresses flowering but has to keep being applied
want to see if i can make a auto veg longer

I wonder if it will make males female. lol Spray an auto male until it becomes female extending the veg time. lol. YEAH RIGHT
