Making connections?

Hey everyone, I just recently had a falling out with a connection of mine and I don't know anyone else in the town I'm in. Anyone have any tips on how to makes some connections?

Also I tend to be pretty socially awkward, and I'm not too keen on dealing with thuggish types..
