Making BHO: Need Help Getting "Sap" Consistency

Hey guys, this is my first post to this forum. I recently started running my own concentrates after spending hours on here and youtube studying everyone's techniques and making a plan for myself. I prefer BHO myself so that's the process I want to perfect before moving on to bubble hash and dry sift.

So far I've been able to make shatter pretty consistently. I want to try to reach the consistency of "sap." I had some at a festival a few years back and it was the best oil I've ever had. If anyone could help me out with a process they use to get the sappy honey oil or point me in the right direction it would be awesome.

Good Vibes

Thanks for the reply!
what would you recommend to use for the winterization process? and how much of a loss in yield should I expect? (just want to know what I'm in for)

hehehe, i showed off my "sap" this weekend. festy goers love it. especially when it takes a lot to get them higher :p

soo.. you got consistent room temperature glass shards? and you want them to be more like taffy? sap?

how are you getting to your shatter? low temps? any vacuum involved?

i usually end up with sap by just raising the heat on the process. i'd push the temps 10F higher, purge, and see what you get, if not sappy enough, raise the temps a bit more...

you will need some grain alcohol, i like to use 190 proof everclear..

here is post #1202 from a fat thread on a whole lot of bs How i wax on

  • i now start off with my butane and everclear straight out of the freezer.. (seems like you get a better spray out of chilled butane, and i use chilled everclear just to keep things preserved :] )

spray butane though column into collection dish.

boil off tane until oil becomes less runny. (bubbles barely seem to move by this point.) If temps are above 70F, no need for any fancy heating elements, lately its been 80F + around here, simple outside purging.

i add the everclear to the bho while it still has some run to it.. ( i add a good amount, over 5 times the amount of bho oil.. )

i then wrap some food wrap over dish, and place in freezer. ( be sure you have your freezer set at lowest temp)

dont rush this part, give it minimal 48 hours for the magic to take place. ( i once winterized in freezer for 9 days, seemed to have no ill effect)

after winterization, rig yourself something like this to filter out the gunk. collect the goods under the filters in a pyrex.

it will take some time to strain the liquid, so try and get your entire strainer rig to fit inside your freezer while this takes place.

    • cold boil off the alcohol at the same temperature and vacuum level.

the liquid will eventually start to bubble up, and most the ethanol will have been boiled off..

from here on out, i vacuum purge no heat and get my muffin :]

you can do a lot after you get a muffin..

I've been keeping the temps pretty low (between 110 and 115 usually) with a long heat purge (the last one was around 35 hours).... I'd rather not take the temperature too high so as not to lose any terps.... I could be erring too much on the side of caution there I guess.

The winterizing technique makes sense to me since it filters out the extra waxes... then again that would probably cause me to lose tome terps as well.

Thoughts anyone?

Whenever I get winterized oil it's pretty "shattery". I don't make it, I just smoke it but I can tell you that I much prefer sap to brittle shatter as well.

Pick up a vacuum chamber and purge at 115F in thirty minutes or so.

Most of my winter is very shatter like too. But it also depends how free the oil is from fine particulate.
I recently performed a glass turkey baster quick butane wash of some Vanilla Kush and used a few coffee filters. Didn't chop up material much. The winterized result is my best shatter yet. Hope to post a pic or two.
I only get sap with my secondary extractions or when my initial extraction was a long soak and chopped really fine leaving a lot fine particles that are just harder to filter out in the end. Winterizing twice is what I'd do to get the most pure oil.

Even though the shatter VK oil is uber dank it is a pain to dab. So what I do is slightly heat my dental tool then I can easily carve a chunk of shatter off. I made 8 grams of dry ice hash and I find myself always reaching for it over my oil lately

Way off topic lol, but how do you smoke the dry ice hash? If I could find as convenient a way as dabbing I think I would enjoy it, but its a pain in the ass trying to smoke it.

you dont dab dry ice hash... its not full melt.... sprinkle it on a bowl
Yep
I use just enough herb to plug the bowl then I just fill it up with hash. Its more pressed pollen that dried out and powders apart after a while.
I tried it off my dome less nail once and it works just very slowly.

What twitch said, just smoke it in a bowl with a little bud under it or sprinkle on a bong hit set up the same way.
