Making a commercial grow operation indoor

I know this thread has been probably started before, but I am looking for new ideas or input.

I live in Oregon, been a medical grower for years.

With measure 91 passing, in January 2016 you can get a license to grow commercially.

I have some financial backing with a budget of $30,000 to $50,000 and am looking to start a commercial grow to sell to dispensaries etc (being 100% legal)

I'm putting together a business plan to be ready for it, and getting the ground work on paper to possibly get started small time, then work towards expansion.

I'm planning on looking into setting up a small wharehouse in a controlled environment and getting "my ducks in a row" to get the business started.

I know, after doing some research that 30k is on the lighter side, and am looking for ideas.

I will need several rooms (veg,flower,drying,mother/clones room, prep/processing etc)

I'm looking for input, as to lights, space, hydro or? etc?

I'm planning on doing 100% organic also

So many different things you cohld try.... i would get a bunch of 4x8 treys put 2 1000 watt hps lamps and air cooled hoods over each trey, get inline fans to cool your hoods you can pretty much set your grow up one trey at a time like a buch of small gardens in a large room then figer out how to feed and water seeing as hand feeding that much would b a hassle... u need to get some more imput from someone else in how to water and feed this size of an grow... and wat method u wanting to use soil, hydro ,coco...... all of these thing will make a difference in wat exactly u want to try as well...

if its a legal grow, why not veg indoor and flower outside as this will reduce the running and save money on equipment

you should pull a massive yeild outside compair to growing inside

It's legal in Oregon now. Next year you can get a commercial license to grow tons of plants.

I am a experienced indoor and outdoor grower (medical for years)

I will for sure use outdoors during the summer, but winter will HAVE to be indoors.

Sounds like fantasy land to me. 30k isn't going to get you started on anything commercial unless we have a different idea of what commercial is... Sure we can help you with size of space and setup ... But you haven't said how many lights you are planning to do.. sounds like about a pound thread

How many is a ton? Take some of that 30k and go pay someone to handle the legal end. You sound 12 . Your going to need to be a little more specific than saying you want to grow a ton of plants in a building .

Agree about the greenhouse approach.

If you choose hydro-----STAY AWAY FROM ORGANICS. Your decision----which is more important hydro or organics.

you going to pull a lot more in dirt as hydro can take years to get the setup spot on and I don't see any benfit of doing hydro over dirt

hydro cost loads to setup and you need to check it a few time a day with most system

soil is easy, cheap to set up and you only need to water every 2-3 days

if you grow in a large green house, you should get better yeilds in soil over hydro because the plants can grow a lot bigger and wider

I come here asking for some advice, some ideas and help, yet you ridicule me?? Thank you, NOT!! (I thought this was a great forum....pfft)

So I have a 30k budget, I'm trying to see, get ideas, of what I could do with that.

Since money will be a factor, I'm trying to see how big of a place to rent (business plan....)

To keep costs down, I'm thinking LED. I have a 500w LED and got great results indoors.

BUT....

I need to get maximum results (since no money coming in for the first 4 months at a minimum)

I want to plan for EXPANSION, start small, and grow bigger (space) later.

With all the different areas needed to properly do it RIGHT, I plan on starting small.

I'll start with finding a place I can rent that I can divide up with all the different areas, ie veg room, flower room, processing room, etc.

YES, I'm new to getting this BIG, I'm looking for any insight as to how BIG to start out with.

I think you have a good idea. You first need to find a safe place to farm. As far as the rest its up to you. We don't know what dollar figure your talking about grossing. When you say starting smaller what do you mean, 5 lamps on your way to 15? Ill help the best i can if you provide a little info on what your expecting.

I guess I need to determine how many plants I can handle, ie how much space to start out with.

With the thought of wanting a perpetual system, and having enough space for each area (veg, flower, processing etc) I'm trying to figure out HOW big of a space to start with (the place to lease to start)

I HAVE to get a business plan together, so I can possibly find another investor (I KNOW 30k will not be enough, but might be enough to start small)

YES, this might be a "pipe" dream, but it's worth a shot if done right (with a goal of expanding as it becomes profitable)

Stick that 30k in the bank and grow some bud in your basement. Take some of that bud around to dispensaries and give them samples of it. *IF* the dispensaries love your product and want more, then consider signing a lease on a warehouse and expanding. If they don't like your product then you've at least not pissed away $30k+ on a bunch of equipment etc.

The horse goes in front of the cart

30k is enough if you have partners/patients willing to cover half or third of the rent, electric, and haircutters. The only issue is some times warehouses have tenants sign a 2-4 year lease.

go big in your house. Buy bulk hps as its cheaper. 20 600ws for under 1.5k I beleive (cannot confirm)
turn your entire house into a grow. try and utalize as much of your house and property as possible even if it means not having much of a living space. it wont matter when you harvest and can afford a better option but if you are on a tight budget I would do it that way. Try and get a contract with earth juice or something if you are planning on doing organics.

Believe in yourself and let nobody stop you from your dream.

If you are a good grower and can produce deecent cannabis you will be mint.

I'm curious as to how LEDs are going to keep your costs down when they are 5x more expensive up front and upfront costs is what you are lacking . LEDs are for closets not for big grows. If your not an outstanding farmer I suggest you saving the investor his 30k. If your talking about all bills through the first run ..rent and all.. 30k might get you through with a 4-6 light setup

It seems your main questions is how much space to start with. You say you've been growing medical for a while, how much space do you have now? Unless you're doing stealth grows in closets and PC cases, can't you just take whatever your setup is now and expand it incrementally?

I don't think you should be looking at how big you can start, instead you should try and figure out how small you can start. Keep your costs, and risk, as low as possible until you get dialed in and have a model you can then replicate and expand to fill larger spaces.
